Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week, anticipated 10 hours of work per week) Care Case Manager Intern for the Office of the Dean of Students at Oregon State University (OSU).

Student Care serves as the first point of contact for students who call, email, or walk in to the Office of the Dean of Students. All operations are intended to be in-person with technology provided by the office.

This position is dedicated to providing educational and developmental opportunities for students to make informed decisions that support their success at Oregon State University. This internship is considered educational in nature. Many programs at Oregon State University require the completion of an internship or research practice in order to graduate; this internship might qualify for academic credit. Position tasks Position tasks of a Student Care Intern:


Support students who have questions or may need assistance managing concerns around a myriad of extenuating circumstances including, but not limited to:
Mental health, physical health, crime victimization, family concerns, economic concerns, social adjustment, housing arrangements, conduct or law violations, or any manner of concern that interferes with a student's capability to function prosperously at the University.
Consult with faculty, staff, and families who are concerned about a student's capability to prosperously manage an emergency or crisis situation
Advise students, families, faculty, and staff about how policy interacts with each individual's presenting concerns or situation, using comprehensive expertise of OSU policies and federal guidelines

Assist students of concern in negotiating challenges that may impact their academic performance and progress. Serve as a bridge to academic resources including academic advisors, the Office of the Registrar, Financial Aid, and other campus units who can work with students directly on these challenges

Consult effectively with people in stressful conditions, including remaining calm when working with people who may be upset, hostile, or experiencing mental illness
Seek immediate assistance from Counseling and Psychological Services, Department of Public Safety, and/or the Student Care Site manager in situations where there is a concern for the student's safety or the safety of others in the community

Manage non-routine follow up for each situation located on individualized circumstances
Consult with the Site manager through weekly 1:1 meetings and attend weekly 2-hour case management meetings with Student Care staff to identify approaches to cases that is founded in student development theory, an ethic of care, and cultural competency
Determine how information is shared to different audiences in the resolution of a situation using comprehensive expertise of FERPA, OSU policies, and professional judgment
Draft independently and regularly send non-standard communications related to Student Care follow up, including: official correspondence, website management, alerts, and email notifications
Manage confidential student records according to the University policies, including destruction or archival of closed files

Comply with all significant departmental and university policies, as well as state and federal laws including Title IX, VAWA, ADA, FERPA, and Title II

Provide leadership abilities on one or more selected projects that may include opportunities such as: o Review and develop training content for members of the Office of the Dean of Students that manage Student Care cases in both printed and online formats
Review and edit various policies and procedures utilized by the Student Care staff to ensure all practices are effective and inclusive

Review all communication materials for current, consistent, and accessible content
Develop assessment reporting that illustrates the successes and areas of improvement within Student Care case management to inform on-going training
Identify and develop a value-added process, template or tool that could be implemented within Student Care's current operations. This contribution should provide a substantial addition to the intern's resume as practical and applicable work practice
Exceptions to the above responsibilities of the position tasks may be approved at the discretion of the Site manager or the Dean of Students.

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

   » Overall job effectiveness is tied to the capability to establish and maintain credibility and good rapport with students and fellow staff members, while offering the highest quality of customer service. Case Manager Interns must be able to travel to and from different locations in the suite and on campus during their shift. Case Manager Interns must also be able to execute tasks on a computer, phone, and/or copy machine with multiple interruptions and with a teamwork orientation during their shift.
