Primary Function of Organizational Unit The mission of the college is to serve as a national model for transforming the health of rural underserved regions through excellence and innovation in nursing education, leadership abilities, research, scholarship, and practice.

Job tasks Collaborates with faculty members to determine department priorities.
Provides leadership abilities for implementation of the College of Nursing strategic plan and mission at the department level.
Collaborates with the Dean, Associate Deans, Directors, and faculty regarding program planning, monitoring curriculum, and evaluation of student results in departmental courses.
Provides leadership abilities and serves as a resource for the department faculty.
Encourages the career development of faculty.
Facilitates faculty research and scholarly activities in the department.
Coordinates an orientation of new faculty.
Conducts annual faculty and staff evaluations.
Recommends faculty income increments located on merit, inequity, promotion, and tenure.
Fosters collegial faculty relations and mediates conflicts among faculty, staff, and students.
Collaborates with Student Services, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and Directors as appropriate in preparation of class schedules and clinical site placements.
Makes faculty teaching assignments.
Advises the appropriate Associate Dean about departmental needs and priorities.
Reviews expenditure of travel and educational funds allocated to the department.
Manages the departmental office effectively.
Teaches selected courses in area of skills.
Participates in scholarly activities and professional services as required by members of the University faculty community.
Serves as liaison with the community through participating in significant community groups and responds to community needs significant to nursing education.
Completes other assignments at the request of the Dean and Associate Dean.

Minimum Education/practice Clinical adjunct Professor/adjunct Professor/Clinical Associate Professor/Associate Professor/Clinical Professor or Professor with a Doctorate in Nursing or related field; five years or more teaching practice in baccalaureate or higher degree program in nursing; demonstrated competence in classroom and clinical instruction; and demonstrated capability to facilitate the research and scholarly activities of others. expertiseable about nursing, nursing education and able to provide leadership abilities for faculty in their development, guide faculty in course development and evaluation of students. Nursing faculty members shall hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in North Carolina, a minimum of 2 calendar years practice, full-time employment, or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation A valid non-restricted North Carolina registered nurse license is required upon employment.

Preferred practice, Skills, Training/Education Administrative practice in the College of Nursing is preferred.
