Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two Stream connected Amphibian Field Tech positions with Fisheries and Wildlife at Oregon State University (OSU).

We are seeking for four enthusiastic individuals to assist in scientific research in the northern Oregon Coastal Range. This work focuses on surveying for stream connected amphibians including Columbia torrent salamander (Rhyacotriton kezeri), southern torrent salamander (Rhyacotriton variegatus), coastal giant salamander (Dicamptodon tenebrosus), Cope's giant salamander (Dicamptodon copei) and coastal tailed frog (Ascaphus truei).

Position tasks Responsibilities include field work and data management all over the 12-week summer season (June 10 - Aug. 30, 2024). Field surveys consist of everyday sampling trips to sites located on private timberlands in the northern Coast Range of Oregon. Sites will be in managed forest stands below 3,000ft elevation and vary in forest stand age.

Sampling will consist of manual searches for amphibians in headwater and low order streams, overturning objects such as rocks, woody debris, and searching under vegetative cover. This position requires working in uneven terrain and searching at ground level and in streams for extended periods, regardless of weather conditions.

The team will survey full time. Housing is included. Each workweek on average will consist of four 10hr days (usually Monday-Thursday), including a mix of time in the field (70%) , data management (15%) , and equipment upkeep (15%) . Some days will require significant travel time to field sites.

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard

   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
