General Description: Under the direction of the Coordinator of the Center for Adult Transitions, the adjunct will work with students who participate in The Center for Adult Transitions at Union College of Union County, NJ (UCNJ.) The Center's mission is to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing transitional services, peer mentoring, educational opportunities, career exploration and linkage to community resources. The Center supports the educational mission of UCNJ by creating an inclusive community that meets the diverse needs of students through advocacy, equitable access, support, and resources.
The Center for Adult Transitions at UCNJ serves a cohort of students with intellectual and developmental disabilities upon graduation from high school through the age of 24 with mentoring, career development, educational services, skill training and referral to wrap around services.

Characteristics, tasks, and Job responsibilities: • Student centered approach that values diversity and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice and belonging.
• Advocates for the needs of student in the Center.
• Works collaboratively with Coordinator and Specialist to support student success at UCNJ and beyond.
• Assists students with skill development including appropriate interpersonal communication, listening expertise, time management, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
• Assists students with developing executive functioning expertise including planning, focus, prioritization, and impulse control.
• Supports Coordinator and Specialist in providing weekly trainings on a wide variety of topics as needed.
• Meets with students to discuss homework, projects, and upcoming exams/quizzes.
• Responds to inquiries via in-person meetings, phone, text, and email.
• Maintains appropriate records.
• Performs other responsibilities assigned by manager or designee.

Education Requirements: Associate degree in Education, Social Services, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field required. Bachelor's degree is preferred

• capability to lgain and work with a wide variety of students with disabilities and adjust mentoring techniques to meet their needs.
• capability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and student body.
• Proficiency with MS office products.
• Preferred Competencies and expertise Required:
• Bilingual in Spanish and/or American Sign Language
• capability to tutor mathematics/science courses.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: • This position's tasks are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, located on the activity scheduled.
• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
• Some travel required.

income: Starting at $20.00 per hour

We offer a comprehensive benefits package for full-time faculty and staff which includes Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits. We also offer twenty vacation days, ten paid holidays, and a ten-week summer work schedule which allows the college to close on Fridays. Other additional benefits include gym privileges, tuition remission for credit and non-credit courses at UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ, and tuition reimbursement for an approved degree program at an accredited college or university.

Terms of Employment: Part-time; hours not to exceed 25 per week. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. capability and availability to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Mandatory overtime is required all over the year, especially at peak times. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.

Grant Position:
Position will be terminated upon expiration of grant funding.
