Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill around 3 Peer Mentor positions for the College of Engineering (COE) at Oregon State University (OSU) in a new program called Dam Legends, which is focused on assisting first-generation students in their college engineering journey.

The College of Engineering (COE) is currently hiring Peer Advisors for Winter-Summer 2025 with the option for employment to be extended to next academic year. Overall, we work to enhance the level of care and sense of belonging of first-generation engineering students at OSU and seek a diverse group of students to contribute to our program and mission in the Dam Legends program.

We're looking for people with a variety of practices and interests who are willing to collaborate with our team, to participate in significant work improving current first generation college students' practice in COE. Regular in-person work is required, though very occasionally some responsibilities may be completed remotely. We expect this position to start between $15.00-$15.50 per hour.

Position tasks · Provide direct peer-to-peer support in navigating OSU and the College of Engineering
· Make appropriate referrals and connect students to resources including: navigating university processes, finding internships and research opportunities, study abroad, academic success resources, major advisors, etc
· Guide students through various university policies and procedures including: reaching out to students' advisors, following registration timelines, applying for scholarships, tutoring resources, utilizing university forms, contacting professors, etc
· Plan and prepare for both 1-on-1 and group meetings with students
· Cater program plans to specific needs of students, including but not limited to: study/tutoring sessions related to their classes, fun events related to their interests, and professional development related to their goals
· Promote student success and community-building through direct support and advocacy
· Develop and maintain positive working relationships with the Peer Mentor team as well as university/college departments, faculty, staff, and administrators

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications · Be comfortable presenting to audiences
· Adaptcapability and flexible critical thinking to answer a wide variety of questions and support students in navigating complex situations
· practice with clubs and/or research, internships practice, or study abroad
· capability to reprioritize responsibilities and adapt to changing circumstances
· Be a current undergraduate with a major in the College of Engineering
· Completed at least two terms at Oregon State University
· Proficiency with Zoom technology
· practice in a leadership abilities function such as a mentor position, club agent, counselor, or other leadership abilities practice
· practice planning events or organizing groups of people
· Students with Federal work study are preferred

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Must attend and participate in:
· 1-4 hours of onboarding and training
· Weekly team meetings
Must be able to work:
· 8-10 hours a week
· Work time may include some evenings and occasional weekends
