Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Lab adjunct positions for the Radiation Center at Oregon State University (OSU).

The position is for a lab adjunct to (a) prepare archaeological samples for compositional analysis; and/or (b) assist with irradiation of samples for elemental analysis. Position may be extended into academic year 2025-2026.

This position is open to qualified/eligible work study students only.

Position tasks This person will assist with the documentation and preparation of archaeological samples (ceramic, chert, and obsidian artifacts) for trace-element analysis by Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA); tasks include photography, microphotography, and the cleaning, crushing/grinding, weighing, and encapsulating of samples.

Clerical tasks include tracking workflow of sample documentation and preparation. Students may train to assist with sample irradiation and gamma spectroscopy.

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications Students must have federal work-study as part of their funding package. Must pass orientation and safety training as required by the Radiation Center.

   » Attention to detail
   » capability to follow lab protocols and work independently.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Work is conducted within the Archaeometry Lab at the OSU Radiation Center.

Specific work hours can be flexible, but should include a minimum of 10 hours per week on a regular schedule. Preferred schedule includes a block of 4 hours on Thursday and/or Friday, to assist with irradiations.
