Minimum Position Appropriate qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism/mass communication or a related field.
Five (5) years practice as a reporter in the everyday print or digital newspaper industry.

Special Conditions: This is a limited funded position with continuation contingent upon funding availcapability.

The department is especially interested in candidates with ten years of work as a reporter and/or editor in the everyday print or digital newspaper news industry in an urban news market.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
May need to work/travel beyond normal schedule.

Working Conditions: While performing the tasks of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Positions Supervised:
Knowledge, expertise, and Abilities: Strong research, newswriting and critical-thinking expertise are essential for this position.

Must demonstrate an capability to follow paper trails, develop sources and produce solid investigative journalism.

Additional Position Information: Also essential to this position is a firm knowledge of the mosaic of factors affecting criminal justice and public safety today including poverty, mass incarceration, gun violence, victims' rights, bail reform, police accountcapability, crime-related legislation, equity in sentencing and the diversity of opinion regarding these issues.
