Organizational Unit Overview The Museum Site Manager position is assigned to the Country Doctor Museum (CDM), part of the History Programs of Laupus Health Sciences Library. The CDM's mission is to interpret the history of health care in rural America. Using its collections of artifacts, archival materials, and physical campus located in Bailey, NC, the CDM shares the legacy of rural health care practitioners with the community and reinforces the education focus of ECU's Division of Academic Affairs.

Job tasks Museum administrative coordination: follows ECU administrative policies; maintains operational supplies; ensures budget compliance; makes purchases for the CDM; compiles statistics and monthly report to Laupus administration; and submits required documentation for financial accounting including ECU's ProCard purchasing card.

Management of the museum's campus: maintains appropriate policies and procedures related to museum security; seeks authorization for planned expenditures; follows material management policies for submitting vendor forms, estimates and invoices; and supervises site repairs and improvements to the museum's buildings, grounds and medicinal garden.

Personnel Job responsibilities: recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate paid and volunteer staff; completes necessary HR paperwork for new hires; ensures staff annual training requirements are met; anticipates staffing needs and coordinates staff schedules; approves docent timekeeping and ensures docent work time is within budgeted hours; and helps maintain the museum's training manual.

Acts as a liaison with departments from Laupus Library and ECU pertaining to ITCS, website updates, security, safety issues, financial accounting, marketing, and budget.

Customer service and operational schedules: provides guided tours to museum guests; coordinates group tour practices with adequate staffing and appropriate add-on activities; coordinates outreach activities for museum presentations and programs; provides support as required in the event of staff shortages or when assistance is needed to maintain uninterrupted service to museum visitors; helps after hours as needed such as on Saturdays or for evening/weekend programs; and assists in completion of special projects as assigned.

Public relations and marketing: plans and coordinates museum marketing efforts with Director; contacts with third-party organizations and vendors; develops and places advertising with approval from ECU; assists with fund raising; plans and implements special events and maintains the CDM's social media platforms.

Curatorial Job responsibilities: assists with the management of historic collections including processing and collections care; reconciles collection management records; plans and implements annual plantings for the museum's medicinal garden; and assists with the development and implementation of interpretive exhibits and educational programs.

Responsible for smooth operation of the museum gift shop: ordering products, stocking, and following ECU financial procedures including credit card settlement and reports.

Minimum Education/practice Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment and one year of practice that demonstrates possession of the competencies necessary to execute the work; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
