Job Offer: Reporter, Youth and Education:New Hampshire Public Radio, Inc.Job description: Reporter, Youth and Education Listing description Summary: NHPR is seeking a Reporter to focus on the issues directly shaping the lives of the state's kids, teens and their families. That includes stories that examine how people in power address challenges around education funding, childcare, supporting students' social and emotional health, and more. We want this reporter to think beyond the State House and school board meetings, focusing instead on the everyday lives of young people and their families. Our ideal candidate will have a background in journalism - audio practice is valuable but not required - and will be ready to jump on breaking news as needed. But We are pursuingsomeone who can think beyond the everyday news cycle and dig into stories that require deeper, more intentional reporting. We're looking for a journalist who's enthusiastic about community engagement, through in-person source-building and digital outreach, to understand what issues matter to kids and families across New Hampshire. This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position located in New Hampshire, reporting to a Sr. Editor. This position is covered under our collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA. The function will be classified as either a Reporter (with a minimum income of $56,900) or a Senior Reporter (with a minimum income of $65,300), depending on the chosen applicant's practice level. We also consider internal equity, among other factors when deciding compensation. Key Job responsibilities: » Research and produce news stories about education, youth and families for on-air broadcast and digital distribution. » Stay up to date on local, regional and national issues affecting education, kids, teens and families, working with your editor to identify opportunities to contextualize issues for NHPR's audience. » Work varied shifts to meet news coverage demands, including breaking news and other appropriate coverage reasons. » Participate in station fundraising, live appearances and sponsorship activities. » Seek professional development opportunities, with support of managers, and take initiative to lgain new expertise in reporting, on-air presentation and digital news production. Preferred expertise and practice:? » Excellent writing and organizational expertise, and capability to meet deadlines. » Demonstrated news judgment in recognizing the relative importance of a news story and in developing stories. » Demonstrated success in building trust with sources to produce original news coverage. » capability to develop creative approaches to human interest coverage and feature stories. » Technologically versatile with availability to expand expertise. Multimedia expertise, including practice in producing or editing data visualizations, video or other digital media, as well as audio, are desirable. » practice in broadcast journalism, including radio script writing and audio production » practice covering education or other issues affecting young people » capability to represent NHPR standards and code of ethics in interviewing, reporting, and using social media.
