Work Schedule 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; Monday - Friday with frequent weekend and evening work hours required, as necessary, in conjunction with educational class schedules.

Primary Purpose of Position The Education and Volunteer Coordinator, along with the Director of the Gardens, plans, schedules, and periodically teaches curriculum for the Certificate of Native Plant Studies program as well as other educational opportunities for the campus and Charlotte community as appropriate.

The Coordinator may supervise other staff to achieve educational goals as appropriate. They will also lead and coordinate volunteer activities that benefit the Gardens in conjunction with the rest of the Gardens' staff, including the implementation of a docent program. The Education and Volunteer Coordinator will work with other staff to arrange and carry out tours for both on and off campus groups. The Coordinator will work to connect with both local and regional plant societies and will take responsibility for working with the adjunct Director and Greenhouse Manager to improve the interpretive signage, labeling and curation status of the Gardens' broad list of plant materials.

The Coordinator reports to the Director of the Gardens and works closely with the adjunct Director, Greenhouse Manager, and other Gardens' staff to serve the needs of the Gardens, College, and University.

Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and one year of practice related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

University Preferred Appropriate qualifications:
Graduation from a four year college or university and at least three years of program associate practice; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.

Essential Job tasks The essential job tasks of the Education and Volunteer Coordinator at the UNC Charlotte Botanical Gardens are:
   » supervise the Certificate in Native Plant Studies educational program as well as other educational programs and events.
   » Provide leadership abilities for the Gardens' volunteer program and arrange productive activities for those individuals.
   » Teach outreach courses on significant horticultural topics and creates and implements special events which promote the Gardens' and educates various communities about the natural world around us.
   » Work to partner with significant local and regional plant societies and other significant associations.
   » Assess the impact of communication efforts and recommends necessary adjustments.
Other Work Responsibilities To facilitate the Gardens' success, the Coordinator must:
   » Lead the Gardens' volunteer program including creation, implementation, scheduling and management of volunteer activities that benefit the Gardens and its visitors; and
help design, create, and carry out in person practices including tours and events.
   » Account for the results of an assigned action, including efficiently following assignments through to prosperous completion with proper attention to detail.
   » Accomplish tasks and processes accurately and completely.
   » Work with the adjunct Director and Garden Manager to provide signage, curation and labeling of plant materials in the Gardens' to improve visitor practice.
   » Ensure all work meets and/or exceeds applicable standards and is completed on time.
   » Develop relationships and communication methods.
   » Other tasks, as assigned.
