Join the WABE News team to edit, create, and curate an information hub to inform our audience in real time.
Monitor incoming local issues and ensure the top news items are represented on WABE.org and other digital news avenues.
The right person will be able to multitask managing our digital news products while collaborating with other journalists all over the week to showcase WABE's original radio reporting online.
The Job
WABE is seeking a qualified candidate to produce compelling news and feature content for its digital platforms and other news products. The Evening Digital News Editor will work with reporters and producers to create digital content complementary to radio news stories.
The Evening Digital News Editor will work closely with the senior editor for digital and the managing editor of WABE News on everyday assignments as well as long-range planning for WABE's websites, social media, and other platforms that include audio, video, and images.
Essential tasks Include:
• Manage the WABE website, editing and curating stories using digital tools for data, audio, and visual effects and using analytics and the latest best practices to make stories attractive to digital users.
• Collaborate with television, radio, and digital staff to adapt stories for the web using best practices; training and assisting staff as needed.
• Create and contribute content to increase and enhance WABE's social media presence on current and emerging platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
• Document and verify the continued growth of WABE's digital audience by tracking metrics using Google Analytics and other tools. Must understand the fundamentals of web analytics, types of traffic, etc., and be able to act located on the analysis.
• Create multimedia presentations using photos, video, graphics, data visualization tools, etc.
• Write and produce everyday news stories for use on WABE digital platforms.
• Propose, conceive, and execute digital feature stories.
• Work with news staff to adapt and create original content for the website.
• Explore new technologies and improve the use of current technologies.
• Other tasks as assigned.

expertise, expertise, and Abilities:
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications, preferably with an emphasis on broadcasting or equivalent work practice.
• At least two years of practice working in digital or broadcast journalism.
• Impeccable news judgment and ethics.
• Excellent writing and editing expertise with proficiency in AP Style.
• capability to work collaboratively with a creative team to deal with problems and achieve common goals.
• practice with video and audio production tools, photography, and social media. Web development practice is a plus.
• Strong organizational expertise and capability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Working expertise of Google Analytics, Digital Content Management Systems (WordPress or similar software), and other web and Microsoft fundamentals.
• The position requires working non-standard hours and is likely assigned to the evening news shift (noon - 8 p.m.) with occasional weekend tasks.

Compensation and benefits
This position is located on the Editor I category with a starting income of $55,000

The team
This position reports to the senior digital news editor and works closely with the deputy managing editor and managing editor, as well as other members of WABE's newsroom and journalists at partner outlets.

Will require walking primarily on a level surface for periodic periods all over the day. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist, or lifting as required (up to 10 lbs.), filing documents, climbing, storing equipment, and working around high voltage equipment.Proper lifting techniques are required. Working in spaces/rooms with various temperatures and lighting, confined spaces, and broadcast equipment as found in a typical technical broadcast environment in addition to working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and temperatures.
