Primary Purpose of Position Building Services staff are responsible for all the custom room set ups of the conference rooms within their assigned building. The room set ups include setting up tables, chairs, podiums, display boards, stages, flip charts and easels. This position ensures that rooms are set up properly for all events and performs housekeeping services all over the building. Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: Some expertise of cleaning procedures, capability to follow instructions and to execute medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice. University Preferred Appropriate qualifications: Some expertise of cleaning procedures, one year of practice demonstrating the capability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice. Essential Job tasks » Responsible for the overall cleanliness and upkeep of the Student Union building during his/her assigned shift. » Cleans and maintains all assigned interior and designated exterior building areas, performing cleaning-related tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, disinfecting, vacuuming, replenishing supplies & products, glass cleaning, carpet and upholstery cleaning, wall washing, and dusting. » Reports to the 3rd Shift manager, who will coordinate the everyday schedules and any special assignments. » Utilizes and properly maintains cleaning equipment, located on standard operating procedures, to departmental specifications. » Serves as an essential employee during holidays, emergencies or inclement weather. » Checks 25Live scheduling software regularly to determine scheduled events/meetings in the Student Union, and adjusts schedule accordingly. » Cleans all assignments according to the interior and exterior Standard Operating Procedures established by department. » Maintains proper use of chemicals according to the manufacturer's guidelines and manager's instructions. Other Work Responsibilities » Installs routine products and equipment per instructions. » Assists in equipment maintenance. » Determines the proper use of maintenance products and processes in assigned tasks, and follows instructions on labels. » Works together with other team members to accomplish departmental goals and objectives. » Interacts with Student Union clients, including students, guests, staff, faculty, and administrators, in a friendly, open, honest, and accepting manner. » Understands the needs of a variety of clients, responding to customer requests in a timely manner. » Recognizes, addresses and resolves potential problems in service, and resolves customer complaints without incident. » Treats customers courteously and with respect at all times. » Acquires necessary expertise for higher performance through academic, apprenticeship, and/or on-the-job training. » Exhibits a confident and positive attitude at all times. » Understands the needs of a variety of clients, responding to customer requests in a timely manner. » Proactively identifies and anticipates customer needs. » Identifies and refers non-standard problems to manager. » Task Requested by manager. Departmental Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education » Prior practice in higher education facilities; previous practice in a Student Union highly preferred. » 2-4 years practice in the housekeeping, floor care, or related field. » Must have practice operating various housekeeping equipment. » Working expertise of computers and word processing software. » Excellent communication expertise. » Team-oriented approach, a positive attitude, and the capability to work together as part of a team. Necessary Licenses or Certifications Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
