Position Summary Information

Job Summary/Basic Function: About this function:

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Financial Aid Operations, the Financial Aid Specialist Sr. will supervise all aspects of the operational awarding process for scholarships at Lamar University in conformity with federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and operating guidelines within the Student Aid office. The purpose of this position is to ensure that all student processes coordinated under this position are evaluated for compliance before the awarding of scholarships to students' accounts.

What You'll Do - Position Job responsibilities:
   » Makes necessary adjustments to identified issues with scholarship set up such as matching requirements, application questions, or updated donor guidelines.
   » Ensures that all awards made in the MyScholarships system are correctly posted in Banner by rectifying issues identified on the API error report.
   » Responds to inquiries by researching and resolving problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues related to student scholarship awarding.
   » Ensures the qualifications of recipients are correctly set in the Scholarship Manager for each scholarship opportunity.
   » Awards all university scholarships within the scholarship system and ensures that student communication is triggered when a student is awarded a scholarship, including thank you letter requirements.
   » Updates and maintains the budgets in the MyScholarships and Banner systems after verifying that all budgets are provided by the Finance office.
   » Ensure all recipients are meeting the scholarship criteria and monitoring awarding budgets to ensure funds are being spent according to plan.
   » Reviews, updates, and maintains all updates needed for university scholarships in the MyScholarships system.

Physical Requirements:
   » The physical requirement is the capability to work in an office environment, which involves sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time along with occasionally stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching and reaching.
   » You may occasionally need to lift, carry, push or pull moderate weights of up to 25 lbs.
Job Conditions:
   » Standard work hours are usually during the day. Monday-Friday, but there may be occasional requirements to work evenings, holidays or weekends due to peak times.

Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
   » Bachelor's degree required
   » 2 years of significant practice in the following:
   » practice in a data processing environment.
   » Excellent verbal and written communication.
   » Strong analytical and computer proficiency skills are necessary, along with the capability to multitask effectively.
