Organizational Unit Overview The Division of Infectious Diseases at The Brody School of Medicine provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of infections. Infectious Disease doctors help ensure the timely diagnosis and treatment of acute infections by recommending the appropriate diagnostic tests to identify the source of infections and by recommending the appropriate antibiotic to treat the infection. We are dedicated to the treatment of persons infected with HIV in Eastern North Carolina. Our physicians and physician extenders currently provide care for more than 1,500 patients in our clinic in Greenville as well as another 300 patients in clinics in surrounding counties. Faculty members are currently collecting data to address the issue of the disproportionate infection rate of HIV in African Americans. The division is involved in many clinical trials involving HIV therapies. These trials provide needed drugs to persons who may otherwise not be able to receive treatment.

Job tasks The Ryan White Eligibility Specialist (RWES) will assist with dental referrals, insurance eligibility confirmation, and be a liaison with internal billing coordinators. The RWES will determine patients' eligibility and provide services connected with their enrollment into Ryan White (RW) grant outpatient ambulatory and support services at ECU Adult Specialty Care (ASC). The RWES will complete annual assessments, earnings analysis located on program guidelines, verification of residency, and review insurance coverage status. THE RWES will interview and complete enrollment for eligible patients, including annual applications for the State HIV Medication Assistance Program (HMAP). The RWES will work closely with Case Managers, Pharmacists, and ASC medical staff to ensure continuity of care within the clinic. The RWES will serve as liaison with the state HMAP program staff and Regional Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Medicaid navigators. This position further supports clients in achieving optimum health results through the identification and mitigation of barriers.

The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University is affiliated with ECU Health Medical Center, which serves as its teaching hospital, as well as the flagship hospital for ECU Health.

Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS).
