Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Office of Medical Education (OME) is strongly committed to excellence in all aspects of the physician training process. We work closely with our basic science and clinical departments as well as with all administrative units within the medical school to maximize the achievement of our students, and to support our teaching faculty in delivering a curriculum that emphasizes the science and art of medicine. OME is committed to working collectively with the faculty and administration to maintain a learning environment that values every student and facilitates the achievement of their educational goals, including their capability to lead and serve in communities across North Carolina. OME supports the teaching faculty and others in the process of providing an accredited program of undergraduate medical education leading to the MD degree and OME provides leadership abilities in curriculum development, program evaluation, student assessment and medical education research and scholarship.

Job tasks Brody School of Medicine Distinction Track Program is searching for a Director of Medical Humanities Distinction Track in Medical Education. This is an ?Internal Posting?, open only to candidates currently employed by East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, and will be a part-time (.10 FTE/10%) reassignment of time for a Brody School of Medicine faculty member.

Brody School of Medicine Distinction Track Program is initiating a new Medical Humanities Distinction Track that will foster the development of students who desire to incorporate the medical humanities into their medical careers. This new Distinction Track (DT) will support those future physicians who wish to make scholarly or creative contributions in the medical humanities. Graduates from this program will become effective advocates for humanism in the profession of medicine. Participants who prosperously complete the entirety of the longitudinal Medical Humanities Distinction Track will graduate medical school with a distinction in the Medical Humanities.

tasks will include:
1. Develop and implement the longitudinal Medical Humanities curriculum including the 8-week summer immersion program, M2, M3, and M4 progress meetings, and M4 capstone course.
2. Establish measurable goals and objectives for each program year (Summer Immersion, M2, M3, M4, and Capstone).
3. Identify and evaluate materials that support the curriculum such as learning practices, assignments, reading materials, videos, or online resources.
4. Recruit and develop faculty for delivery, facilitating, and/or precepting educational content as needed.
5. Collaborate with other DT program leadership abilities and administration to plan and implement annual events (i.e. Medical Student Scholarship Forum, Interest Meeting, Orientation, Capstone).
6. Provide oversight of the course site within the Brody School of Medicine learning management system (LMS) to ensure content is complete and consistent with the Executive Curriculum Committee (ECC) approved Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) Compliant LMS Template and made available in a timely fashion to students.
7. Assess student performance and provide formative feedback related to their performance and participation in the Medical Humanities program.
8. Lead regularly scheduled student progress meetings.
9. Develop and track programmatic results linked to program objectives.
10. Monitoring student project implementation and provide guidance as needed.
11. Implement routine evaluation measures to ensure educational quality improvement standards and respond to student feedback.
12. Collaborate with other distinction track leaders and administration to design and implement common educational sessions and develop policies related to the Brody School of Medicine Distinction Tracks.
13. Attend all required distinction track leadership abilities retreats and meetings - including any meetings required to decide on potential dismissal of students from the distinction track program as per the current standard operating procedure.
14. Assist in the facilitation and implementation of Distinction Track program recruitment (i.e. Interest Meeting).
15. Participate in program application, interview, and selection process.
16. Assist in identifying mentors for each participant's longitudinal medical humanities project and facilitate this interaction as needed.
17. Advise students in professional/career/longitudinal project development.
18. Provide continuous feedback to students by grading assignments and reports in a timely manner.
19. Complete student elective course evaluations to confirm students are meeting the expectations.
20. Compile annual programmatic reports.

Minimum Education/practice -Current Brody School of Medicine Faculty member
-MD, DO, or PhD from an appropriately accredited institution or completed foreign medical education accepted and recognized for ECFMG Certification
-For MD/DO - NC Medical license; board certified in appropriate discipline
-Teaching practice in a clinical academic setting
-Substantial, documented training and educational practice in the medical humanities

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation For MD/DO-
-Full, unencumbered license to practice medicine in North Carolina
-Full schedule DEA Registration Certificate
-Credentialing with ECU Physicians

Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education -Curricular leadership abilities practice
-Degree concentration or additional training in medical humanities

License or Certification Required by the Department
