Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Rural Education Institute (REI) will partner with the Rural Schools Collaborative and Johns Hopkins University to establish systems, structures, know-how, and knowledge needed to move the scaling of high-quality student success systems from organic to systematic. This is a national project. REI will serve as an intermediary for the Southeast for this year-long phase of the GRAD Partnership.

Job tasks The GRAD Partnership Research Associate will work with REI staff and P-12 partners to support the academic progress, college and career transitions, and well-being of students at 10 rural high schools in Eastern North Carolina via the GRAD Partnership system for advancing student success. The major responsibilities of the GRAD Partnership Research Associate position will be to build/enhance partnerships with rural high schools, facilitate professional learning for high school staff, and provide technical assistance for partnering high schools. The GRAD Partnership Research Associate should be well-versed in college and career readiness activities in P-12 settings, research-practice partnerships, communities of practice, project leadership abilities, and partnership development. Training in the specifics of the GRAD Partnership model will be provided. The GRAD Partnership Research Associate should be a leader and critical thinker who appreciates rural contexts and can work independently and function effectively within school-located and community-located teams. Travel for on-site collaboration with partner schools is required.

Direct Support to Partner Schools (80%)- This position is responsible for supporting REI's recruitment of participating partner rural high schools, establishing MOUs/data sharing agreements with partner schools/school districts, conducting asset mapping/needs assessments, and developing and implementing student success systems to promote college and career readiness. The position will leverage considerable independent decision making to advance the goals of the GRAD Partnership initiative, ensure timelines are met, and manage program resources. The position will facilitate professional learning for staff in partner schools and provide technical assistance to partner schools in their implementation of student success systems. Example activities may include leading workshops for school counselors/other staff, troubleshooting implementation challenges, proposing solutions to challenges, monitoring budgets, and developing interim status reports.

Participation in GRAD Partnership Community of Practice (15%) - The position is responsible for participating in the GRAD Partnership Community of Practice led by Johns Hopkins University and the Rural Schools Collaborative, which includes meeting regularly with the national network of GRAD Partnership sites to share practices/results and to lgain with and from others.

Collaboration and Relationship Development (5%) - The position is responsible for working with partner schools and districts in ways that reflect and reinforce the broader REI model of research-practice partnerships. Specifics of that model include asset-located approaches, building and maintaining sustainable long-term relationships, and bidirectional communication.

Minimum Education/practice This position requires knowledge of K-12 schools, community and family engagement. Strong interpersonal expertise are necessary including networking with K-12 setting (students, families, and administrators), community members, collaborating with university grant partners, and university grant team members.

Additional qualifications include:
   » Master's degree in education or a related discipline
   » At least 3 years of work practice within education, healthcare, or social services sectors.
   » practice working in rural K-12 related settings
   » Demonstrated project coordination expertise
   » Proven capability to build, support, and manage a team towards high-yield goals.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation None

   » Computer expertise; familiarity with a full range of basic software (Office 365); Familiarity with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) as well as webpage development.
   » Excellent organizational, management, and technical expertise
