Delaware Art Museum

The Delaware Art Museum seeks an emerging museum professional for the new position of Art Bridges Fellow , a three-year, full-time position in the Art and Learning Department. The position is designed to offer emerging museum professionals the opportunity to work closely with registrars, curators, preparators, educators, and interpretation staff for an expansive knowledge of the collections, exhibition, and education activities within a museum. The prosperous candidate will perform tasks connected with the Museum's permanent collection, special exhibitions, and interpretive programming including registration, curatorial support, curriculum development, and tour management, among other tasks. The Fellow reports to two DelArt staff members, the Manager of Learning and Interpretation and Head Curator.
The position, as part of the Art Bridges Fellows Program, will engage with other DelArt departments and interact with staff across all levels of the museum, including the leadership abilities team. External connections and collaborations will be critical to the success of the function, and these interactions will be fostered and supported by the Fellow's staff mentors. The Fellows Program is dedicated to creating diverse museum leadership abilities with a national group of emerging arts professionals and mentors. With its partner museums, the foundation will establish deep career pathways for historically underrepresented groups in the arts. The Fellow will attend convenings in Bentonville, Arkansas each year, including a month-long residency and orientation from September 9 - October 4, 2024. Additional funding for research travel and participation in museum industry conferences will be provided.
The three-year program is progressive, offering broad practice in the first year with increasing responsibilities in the third year.
Major responsibilities include:
   » Assistance with collections rotation and in-house exhibition interpretation.
   » Assistance with accessioning process.
   » Assistance with collections care.
   » Development of program evaluation and assessment.
   » Support of youth and adult tour coordination and development.
   » Development of collection and exhibition programming.
   » Serve as a liaison between Delaware Art Museum and Art Bridges.
   » Interface with museum departments working with Art Bridges to advance art sharing and community engagement.
Requirements:
   » Bachelor's degree in art, art education, art history, museum studies, curatorial studies, or related field required.
   » Minimum of two years of combined practice working in cultural organizations.
   » Interest in collections care, curatorial practice, education, and interpretation.
   » Commitment to collaborative approaches to partnerships within and outside the Museum.
   » Superior written and interpersonal communication expertise.
   » Attention to detail and accuracy.
   » Proficient knowledge of computer programs.
   » capability to lift 35 pounds safely.
   » Strong organizational expertise including effective time management, capability to set and fulfill priorities, and demonstrated capability to work effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced environment.
   » Highly motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
   » capability to handle confidential materials with discretion.
