Job Summary The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at Oregon State University (OSU) invites candidates for a full-time Trades/ Maintenance Worker 2, tradesperson position, to support maintenance and renovation of the College's state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities.

The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences is an internationally recognized leader in the study of the Earth as an integrated system. Information technology conducts leading-edge research in the Earth, ocean, atmospheric, climate change, geography, and geospatial sciences, and houses world-class facilities including the new R/V Taani, a CEOAS-designed, built and operated regional class research vessel. The College offers M.S. and Ph.D. graduate degrees in Geography and Geospatial Science, Geology, and Ocean, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences; a M.S. in Marine Resource Management; undergraduate degrees in Geography and Geospatial Science, Climate Science, Environmental Sciences, Geology, and Oceanography; undergraduate and graduate certificates in Geographic Information Science; and graduate certificates in Marine Resource Management and Water Conflict Management and Transformation. CEOAS hosts the Cooperative Institute for Climate, Ocean and Ecosystem Studies, the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute, and is a major collaborative center for the $350M NSF-funded Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). Recent new projects include the COLDEX Science Technology Center for oldest ice exploration and knowledge past climate and the Cascadia CoPes Hub for informing and enabling hazard assessment, mitigation, and adaptation in the coastal Pacific Northwest. CEOAS has more than 110 faculty, 179 graduate students, and 860 undergraduate students. The College has annual research expenditures that exceed $110 million, with support coming from the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and other federal and state agencies and industry interests.

The tradesperson is part of the CEOAS Facilities and Operations team, which consists of 2-3 full-time staff and part time student workers. The team plans and implements maintenance, renovation and repair of CEOAS offices, research laboratories, equipment and storage/staging spaces and coordinates work with other units internal and external to the College and Oregon State University (OSU). The tradesperson works with CEOAS Operations and Facilities staff to prepare office and laboratory space for new faculty/staff, moves and assembles furniture, and performs minor repairs to college-owned equipment. The incumbent assists faculty, staff, and students in building, maintaining, and troubleshooting the equipment needed to achieve the educational and research mission of the college. This position is part of a support team that ensures the specialized equipment, general spaces, and laboratories required for faculty, scientists, and students are adequately maintained and fully functional. The Tradesperson is considered a jack/jill-of-all-trades.

The Tradesperson may work at on-campus or off-campus facilities to execute routine maintenance, repair, construction, and support tasks for buildings, research equipment and machinery, building operating systems, and grounds. The Tradesperson consults with Facilities and Operations Manager to determine the best methods and sequence of tasks to accomplish assigned tasks efficiently and effectively.

What We Require
Three years of general building maintenance practice in one or more of the following trade areas: carpentry, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, and welding. NOTE: Some positions may require licensure or certification in a specific trade area.
What You Will Need This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
