Our team of clinicians serves an important, high visibility function on our campus and consists of professional counselors, interns and a psychologist. We are interested in hiring an exceptional person to join our team, Somebody with demonstrated success serving as a generalist therapist utilizing a variety of counseling techniques, to provide brief therapy services to our student population. This position reports to the Director, Student Counseling Services. APSU's Health and Counseling Center is particularly interested in strengthening services to an increasingly diverse student population. With that goal in mind, this position will call for skills in providing culturally responsive counseling, outreach, and other programs to underrepresented populations, including race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, capability, veteran status, and/or socio-economic status. Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN Primary tasks and Job responsibilities: Direct care services: » Provide brief, solution-focused, culturally sensitive therapy services, including individual and/or group counseling to APSU students. » Provide intake, triage, and other mental health assessments to ensure optimal delivery of services. » Assist clients in identifying and utilizing other campus and community resources and services related to student success and well-being. » Provide referrals to off-campus providers for students who may require more specialized services. » Respond to student mental health crises and provide after-hours emergency coverage as needed. » Maintain confidential case files and records. Outreach and avoidance services: » Establish collaborative functions with the various APSU student cultural centers, organizations and departments. » Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students and serve as a general resource person where student mental health and well-being are concerned. Represent the department by participating in wellness and other outreach events, some after hours and on weekends. » Provide consultation for faculty, staff, and students regarding individual students of concern who may be exhibiting signs of distress or dysfunction. Other: » Explore opportunities for continuous quality improvement. » Serve on significant University committees. » Attend appropriate local, regional, and national meetings and conferences for professional development and to represent the department, the division, and the University. » Perform other job-related tasks as assigned. expertise, Skills, and Abilities: » Advanced expertise of counseling theories and modalities. » Commitment and skills in working with diverse populations and/or underrepresented college student populations, including race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, capability, veteran status, and/or socio-economic status. » expertise and practice with multicultural theory and research, and the application of such research to college counseling center work. » capability to effectively assess psychological, social and emotional difficulties. » Strong counseling skills. » Strong crisis intervention skills. » practice providing short-term, solution-focused treatment. » practice working within multidisciplinary teams. » practice facilitating a variety of psychotherapy and/or wellness-oriented groups, ranging from psychoeducational and skills-located groups to interpersonal process groups. » capability to maintain files accurately, in both paper and software formats. » capability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. » Good project management skills; able to handle multiple tasks and timelines in an organized manner. » Must be able to work well with managers, coworkers, the University community, and the public. » capability to effectively operate a personal computer and utilize appropriate software. Physical Requirements: » Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: Required Skills and Appropriate qualifications: » Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, or related field. » Fully licensed as a Counselor, Social Worker, or Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Tennessee or eligible for reciprosity. » prosperous practice providing counseling services to adults and/or adolescents. » A background check will be required for the prosperous applicant. » Employee may be required to report to work during emergency or disaster situations.
