Mandatory Personnel

This position is designated as ?mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position To maintain various types of floor surfaces in Campus Academic, Athletic, and Administrative buildings.

Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications:

Some expertise of cleaning procedures, capability to follow instructions and to execute medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice. High school diploma or GED equivalent.

University Preferred Appropriate qualifications:

Some expertise of cleaning procedures, one year of practice demonstrating the capability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice. Three years practice in institutional housekeeping with floor care practice preferred. High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Essential Job tasks The Building Environmental Services Technician provides custodial support for the University. tasks include, but are not limited to:
1. Care and clean academic buildings, offices, studios, other state buildings and the grounds surrounding University and State facilities.
2. Maintain equipment in good working order.
3. Compile and maintain checklist and report needs to BES manager or appropriate lead BES Technician in the absence of manager.
4. Maintain various types of floor surfaces to include vacuuming, spotting and shampooing or water extracting carpet, dust mopping, and stripping or spray buffing resilient tile floors.

Other Work Responsibilities 1. Assist the BES manager and lead Technicians in testing and making recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.
2. Must be able to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, housekeeping, and recycling functions.
3. Follow established Facilities Management, UNC Charlotte and State Policies and Procedures.
4. Perform other related tasks as assigned and/or delegated.

Departmental Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education 1. High school diploma or GED equivalent.
2. expertise of cleaning procedures, one year of practice demonstrating the capability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.
3. Three years practice in institutional housekeeping with floor care practice preferred.
4. The capability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
5. The capability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension) required.
6. Effective expertise in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
7. Computer literate.
8. expertise and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and availability to lgain new programs.
9. capability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures.
10. capability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
11. The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to execute the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Necessary Licenses or Certifications Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
A valid driver's license is required. The BES Technician operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
