The Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, & Conservation Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Faculty Research adjunct position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.

FWCS is an academic unit that reports to the College of Agricultural Sciences. The Department is composed of approximately 300 staff, including academic faculty, research adjuncts, classified staff, graduate students, and temporary staff. Over $8 million of externally funded grants and contracts are received each year in support of science focused on basic ecological research, conservation, and sustainable use of fish and wildlife and their habitats. The Department is the largest in the College of Agricultural Sciences, with over 1000 students in 8 degree and certificate programs, including one Bachelor of Science degree, five graduate degrees, and two graduate certificates.

The Faculty Research adjunct will focus on developing models to assess drivers of salmon marine survival. The researcher will have access to a number of broad NOAA datasets on salmon prey, competitor, and predator species in the Northern California Current, as well as salmon survival estimates from coded wire tag recoveries and pit tag detections. The researcher will be located at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, but will collaborate with research scientists from the NOAA Northwest Fisheries Science Center.

Key Responsibilities 40% Analyses and synthesis of salmon data and development of models to assess drivers of salmon marine survival.

20 % Compile and maintain datasets on salmon prey, competitor, and predator species in the Northern California Current and salmon coded wire tag and pit tag data.

30% Prepare written interim reports to science team members and complete final report. Present results at scientific conferences and/or meetings.

10% Coordinate and facilitate activities of scientific team-members and collaborators. Engage in open and respectful communication with research collaborators.

What You Will Need Masters in fisheries, marine ecology, or closely related field.

practice analyzing large datasets

A strong quantitative background with practice in advanced methods such as multi-species modeling, structural equation models, generalized additive models, or spatial distribution models.

Demonstrated effective oral and written communication expertise, and capability to engage respectfully with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and practices.

What We Would Like You to Have expertise of or direct practice in the use Bayesian methods for developing integrated population models.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Most of the work will be conducted on the Corvallis campus or remotely. However, the Faculty Research adjunct may be required to travel to meet with collaborators in the Pacific Northwest that may require overnight stays.
