Under general supervision, you'll be at the forefront of installing and maintaining cutting-edge broadcast technical equipment. You'll play a crucial function in shaping the future by making insightful recommendations for new equipment installations, innovative modifications, and covering all technical requirements. This classification is responsible for repairing, installing, or maintaining broadcast equipment systems. While some positions may serve as back up to operating engineers, they would not be assigned operations work the preponderance of time. Positions responsible for the operation of Advanced Television Standards Committee (ATSC/digital) television, FM, and High Definition radio transmitting equipment are classified to the Educational Telecommunications Engineer II class.?
   » Perform tests on components and/or systems to confirm specified performance.
   » Assist in the training of operating engineers and technicians.
   » Prepare appropriate engineering reports.
   » Fill in on an emergency basis for operating engineers.
   » Advise manager of operational status of equipment for which responsible.
   » Provide input into evaluations of new technological advances and equipment.

Requirements / Appropriate qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: At least three years of practice in broadcasting electronics - television, radio, or cable operations; graduation from a recognized vocational technical school in electronics may be substituted for one year of practice.

Other: May be required to travel to remote broadcast sites. Specific positions in this class may require an employee to possess a valid driver's license or the capability to provide independent authorized transportation in order to execute work-related travel.

   » expertise of: electronic theory and maintenance procedures; basic television systems and signals; one specific technical area such as videotape machines and television cameras; the operation and maintenance of television and radio broadcast station equipment (such as monitors, modulators, distribution systems, audio/video, transmitters, receivers and modulators, distribution systems, audio/video and test equipment); FCC and NET policies, rules and regulations.
   » capability to: read and understand electronic schematic drawings; maintain accurate records; communicate and work in cooperation with others; make a logical analysis; perform mechanical expertise; install, maintain and repair equipment connected with a television broadcast station; operate studio equipment; function as a broadcast engineer when needed; evaluate equipment needs and make recommendations; diagnose and resolve advanced electronic system problems.
