Job Opportunity: C-17-24 Broadcast Engineer:Georgia Public BroadcastingJob description: C-17-24 Broadcast Engineer Listing description Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) is hiring a Broadcast Engineer to join its Technology Team. This candidate will work with colleagues to troubleshoot systems, support operations, evaluate new technologies and implement next generation solutions for GPB's statewide operation of radio, television and digital content delivery platforms. The candidate should be a self-starting technical innovator who is adept at communicating highly technical topics with teammates, management and clients. We are specifically seeking candidates with audio system engineering, operation and design skills and a strong knowledge of audio signal flows, processing, system/network architecture and audio integration into larger ecosystems and workflows will be critical to success. The Broadcast Engineer will be a skilled communicator who puts others at ease, articulates tasks and objectives clearly; and be calm, especially in live operational environments where teams work with dedication and a sense of urgency. We are pursuing an applicant with initiative who cares deeply about high-quality media production. GPB is a collaborative organization that values new ideas and people with a positive approach. The Broadcast Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager. GPB is a statewide dual licensee comprised of 9 PBS television stations and 20 NPR radio stations that broadcast across the state of Georgia. Candidate Job responsibilities: • Support audio systems and workflows for television, studio and radio operations. • Research, design, implement, upgrade and train staff on new audio systems, tools, techniques and/or workflows. • Work with GPB's Technology teams to support on-air operations for television and radio-including remote studios and transmission facilities all over the state. • Work with operations teams to identify technical needs, design workflows/systems and implement solutions. • Work with colleagues to document new systems and to share lessons learned, skills and industry skills. • Collaborate with Technology peers and contribute to the maintenance, operation and documentation of GPB's broadcast, production, and distribution systems. • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to monitor the health of GPB's statewide network. • Recognize, communicate and respond with the appropriate sense of urgency to major technical issues. • Work with teammates to resolve issues, implement solutions and support GPB staff statewide. Candidate Appropriate qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree in a technology, science or media field; military or other significant work practice or training may be a substitute for degree requirements and/or any equivalent combination of education, training, and practice which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. • Minimum of 2 years of practice working in a media or production environment. • Must have the desire to lgain and evaluate new technologies, systems and workflows; the capability to communicate efficiently with varying disciplines and personalities; and knowledgeable of computer network infrastructure and how production workflows can be enhanced using network technologies. • Should understand production workflows in radio and/or television; operational familiarity with NRCS/NRPS, NLE and automation platforms is considered a plus; and be capable of working and communicating in a live broadcast environment; especially, under pressure. • Must be able to read and comprehend technical documentation and have strong technical troubleshooting skills and the capability to articulate the troubleshooting process to peers. • capability to understand and work with virtual and physical computing platforms and have a customer service centric personality and presentation. • Demonstrated passion about broadcast media and improving the practices GPB offers to our sustainers. • Strong Microsoft Excel and Visio skills; Must have a valid GA driver's license; and the capability to work a flexible schedule, to include nights, weekends, and holidays. • Must be able to climb a ladder with equipment and run cables in a broadcast facility and the capability to integrate/install systems in an operational broadcast environment. • AutoCAD skills are considered a plus and familiarity with PBS and NPR technology standards considered a plus. • Member of SBE or SMPTE, or availability to become a member during the first year of employment, is considered a plus, but is not required; SBE, Cisco, Microsoft, CompTIA or similar industry certifications are considered a plus. • Demonstrate an insatiably curious about audio technologies and workflows. • Demonstrated comfortcapability in setting up, configuring, designing, and troubleshooting technical issues with audio systems. • Familiarity with any of these is desirable: AoIP, Adobe Audition (or other DAW), Wheatstone consoles, Studer consoles, Comrex/Opal, Dante, MADI, Enco DAD radio automation, Marketron.
