Primary Purpose of Department In response to NC General Statute Chapter 116, Article 29 A(116-239.5), University of North Carolina at Charlotte is establishing a university laboratory school with the mission of ?improving student performance in local school administrative units with low performing schools by providing an enhanced education program for students residing in those units and providing exposure and training for teachers and principals to prosperously address challenges existing in high need school settings. The laboratory school shall provide an opportunity for research, demonstration, student support, and expansion of the teaching practice and evaluation regarding management, teaching, and learning.?

Primary Purpose of Position UNC Charlotte is seeking a dynamic social worker to serve students and families at Niner University Elementary.

Summary of Position Responsibilities
   » Consult with teachers and other school personnel to obtain information and make decisions regarding student needs.
   » Encourages an environment that is inviting, respectful, supportive, inclusive, and flexible.
   » Provides leadership abilities and collaborates with other school personnel to provide effective school social work services.
   » Appreciates differences and values the contributions of each student in the learning environment by building positive, appropriate relationships.
   » Collaborates with administrators
   » Gathers background information on the student's social history by conducting behavioral observations, making home visits, conducting interviews, and reviewing school records
   » Coordinates with the School of Social Work at the UNC Charlotte College of Health & Human Services to support and supervise social work interns assigned to Niner University Elementary.
   » Collaborates with administrators, teachers, and a range of specialists to help meet the special needs of all students.
   » May participate in the evaluation process by conducting the student's social/developmental history and parent interviews.
   » Supports the school's mission and student success through developing and utilizing internal and external partnerships and resources.
   » Serves as a liaison between the student, home, school, and community resources such as social services, court services, and family service agencies.
   » Provides follow-up support and periodic re-evaluation services as necessary.
   » Acts as a member of the school crisis team to provide intervention to students as necessary.
   » Provides support and instruction for social-emotional learning to groups and/or classes
   » Makes court appearances to present data and performs court-requested evaluations.
   » Compiles monthly reports and maintains accurate case records.
   » Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
   » Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary student services team to assist in sharing information and making decisions to meet student needs.
   » Collects and analyzes student data to plan and evaluate the effectiveness of service delivery.
   » Adapts practices located on current significant research findings and data to best meet the needs of students, families, staff, and the community of Niner University Elementary.
   » Serves as a resource to teachers and staff regarding social work services and the academic/social needs of students.
   » Organizes and conducts specialized programs to include parent training classes and student support activities.
   » Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of the social work profession.
Minimum Education/practice
   » Masters in Social Work
   » Evidence of skill working with at-risk elementary age students

Preferred Education, expertise, expertise and practice
   » Licensed Clinical Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate
   » 3+ years post-degree practice in a school setting
Necessary Certifications/Licenses Holds a NCDPI School Social Worker license.
