The Director of Production (DP) supervises all aspects of the RTVS Content Group's (CG) content productions, projects, policies, objectives, and initiatives. This person also plays a significant group function in determining the CG strategic content plans and is involved in discussions about which projects are given a green light.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
   » Schedules and ensures proper utilization of CG's production facilities and personnel while setting and assuring strict production deadlines.
   » Assigns producers to projects and monitors the progress of all productions.
   » Acts as coach and mentor for production staff and provides inspirational leadership abilities and provides leadership abilities in covering problems that arise from time to time.
   » Fosters a culture of multi-platform coordination and collaboration among production staff, ensuring production staff embrace a platform agnostic mindset and works closely with the News Unit and Development Unit to provide production assistance for some news content.
   » Informs the Director of Content aware of production related legal and policy compliance issues that need to be addressed.
   » Leads a group of producers and production staff to produce multi-media content for distribution on several platforms, including broadcast television, broadcast radio, streaming, web, and social media. This original content includes, but is not limited to, public affairs/news, documentary, performing arts and music, lifestyle, and educational programming.
   » Works closely with the News Unit and Development Unit to provide production support for News and Development content
   » Ensures that all production activities are carried out in conformity with RTVS/IU policies and procedures
   » Works with other members of the production team to identify potential problems with schedules, budgets, or other issues
   » Conducts initial assessments of prospective projects to determine if they can be resourced properly and whether they are likely to be prosperous
   » Works with the other leaders to select projects to receive green light status
   » Organizes the production schedule, including making staff project assignments while supporting content producers with their production planning
   » Monitors the progress of productions to ensure that they are on track to meet deadlines
   » Reviews the production process including holding regular production meetings and reviewing rough cuts of projects
   » Keeps the Director of Content and Director of Broadcast Operations, Director of Engagement, and Director of Digital Operations up to date on the status of all projects and issues that may need to be addressed
   » Responsible for working with the Development and Marketing Units to make sure proper implementation and production of all underwriting, production, and promotions support
   » Prepares production budgets for the Director of Content to review
   » Leads by using strong interpersonal communication expertise and a team building attitude while strategizing for future RTVS original productions- implements plans.
   » May occasionally produce content as needed.
General Responsibilities
   » Directs operations for production and content aspects of the radio and television broadcasting function for the university.
   » Trains, evaluates, coaches, assigns work, and supervises the work of a team of digital marketing staff.
   » Contributes to development of processes, standards, and policies that impact broadcasting and production technology and equipment, while remaining compliant with FCC and other applicable regulations.
   » Coaches broadcasting and production employees in creating and curating multimedia content.
   » Researches industry trends and best practices, explores broader production offerings, and makes strategic recommendations to achieve long-term broadcasting and production goals.
   » Serves as a liaison and ambassador for university broadcasting and production efforts to external constituent groups, including listeners, university stakeholders, national networks, professional organizations, and businesses.
   » Assists in budget planning and administration, including expenditures and revenue projections, program costs, capital needs, corporate development goals, contract negotiations, and report filing.
   » Determines content needs, frequently in collaboration with other broadcasting and production organizations, that appropriately deliver local, state-wide, and national coverage of significant topics.

EDUCATION
Required
   » Bachelor's degree in media production or related field
WORK practice
Required
   » 5 years in public broadcasting, commercial broadcasting, audio/video production and engineering, systems design, or related field
   » 1 year of management practice in significant field
Preferred
   » 2 years managing personnel/large scale projects

WORKING CONDITIONS/DEMANDS
this function requires the capability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this function must be able to execute the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
WORK HOURS
Position may involve occasional evening, weekend, and/or holiday work.
