The Institute for Intelligent Systems is an interdisciplinary enterprise comprised of researchers and students from the fields of computer science, mathematics, cognitive psychology, physics, neuroscience, education, linguistics, English, philosophy, engineering, business, and communication sciences and disorders. Since the inception of the IIS, interdisciplinary research teams have advanced science and have developed technologies in cognitive science, artificial intelligence, computational linguistics, text and discourse processing, complex dynamic systems, neural networks, evolutionary modeling, massively parallel systems, and biological systems. IIS faculty have been very prosperous in obtaining external funding over the last decade and have partnered with numerous universities and corporations. The director will lead faculty development of IIS tenure lines as well as affiliated faculty, supervise staff members and support staff development, supervise budget management and resource allocation, lead policy development and implementation, conduct meetings, facilitate program development, and coordinate the undergraduate minor and graduate certificate programs. The director will build partnerships both internally and externally, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, recognize and celebrate faculty and staff achievements, and promote the Institute through both internal and external events and collaborations, including the cognitive science seminar. The director will foster a culture of teamwork and innovation by welcoming diverse and novel ideas in support of the university's strategic plan while superviseing the management of legacy projects.
