Museum of the American Revolution

The Museum of the American Revolution is seeking a creative, collaborative, and intellectually curious Teacher Resource Developer to build on the institution's history of offering significant, rigorous, and easy-to-use resource materials for teachers in formal and informal classrooms. The prosperous applicant will be a passionate advocate for the Museum's mission, vision, and desired impact, able to make thoughtful connections between past and present to help both educators and students see the continuing relevance of the American Revolution in contemporary life. They will have strong writing expertise and a demonstrated capability to design learning materials that both allow for multiple types of engagement with historical materials and history and civics themes, and are rigorous in their pedagogical approach, purpose, and structure.
The Teacher Resource Developer will be responsible for producing printed and online resources for upper elementary, middle, and secondary school teachers, drawing upon the Museum's collections, exhibitions, and online resources. The Teacher Resource Developer will work closely with members of the Education and Curatorial and Collections Teams and will report to the Senior Manager of K-12 Education. Responsibilities will include researching and writing teacher resource guides, including all supporting materials (glossaries, worksheets, modular activities, contextual statements, etc.); refining existing educational guides and materials; developing and facilitating teacher professional development practices in a variety of formats; and assisting with the Museum's national education outreach efforts. This individual will also serve as a vital member of the Education Team as a whole, assisting in teaching a variety of learners in formal and informal settings and speaking on behalf of the Museum, as necessary.
Primary Job responsibilities:
Develop well-written, well-researched, creative, significant, and standards-aligned teacher resource materials to support student and teacher learning from existing and upcoming virtual and in-museum exhibits and digital resources.
Drawing upon research recently produced by the Museum, modify and refine existing teacher resource materials - including guides and modular activities - for greater ease of access and use.
With Senior Manager of K-12 Education, develop, deliver, and evaluate in-person and virtual teacher professional development practices - including short workshops, weekend practices, and week-long institutes - focused on object-centered learning and teaching, historical empathy, civic engagement, and the American Revolution using the resources and exhibits of the Museum.
Assist the Senior Manager of K-12 Education in planning and organizing the Museum's K-12 outreach strategy, including travel to and tabling about and/or presenting on teacher resources and programming at local, regional and national conferences in the fields of education, museum education, and museum practice.
With Director of Education and Community Engagement and Development Team, support applications for funding to produce new or publish existing teacher and classroom materials.
Support other members of Education and Visitor Engagement Teams in delivering high-quality learning practices and resources, as necessary.
As need requires or time permits, lead virtual and in-person student programs with energy and enthusiasm.
Evening, holiday, and weekend work required.
Additional tasks, as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:
3-5 years' practice as a secondary classroom teacher, teacher resource developer, teacher professional development facilitator, or similar work practice desired.
Bachelor's Degree preferred, or Associate's Degree plus significant work practice; coursework in U.S. History, the American Revolution, Secondary Education and/or Museum Education desirable.
Familiarity with or desire and capability to quickly become familiar with local and national educational history and social studies standards.
Excellent organizational and time-management expertise required, as well as strong verbal and written communication expertise, with strong attention to detail.
Flexibility in adapting to rapidly changing situations with professionalism and composure; an capability to "think on one's feet" and a positive attitude are essential.
capability to eagerly accept and implement feedback and critique, especially during the editorial process of written teacher resource materials.
Demonstrable capability to work as part of a cohesive team, interact with and collaborate with other staff in a clear, friendly, and effective manner.
Must enjoy working and interacting with learners of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, learning styles, and expertise levels, including but not limited to classroom teachers.
Comfort with or availability to lgain to use virtual teaching, learning, office, and other tools, including but not limited to Zoom, Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Dropbox.
capability to see, speak clearly, and understand the English language.
Availcapability to regularly work a schedule that includes some weekend days, holidays, and evenings. (The Museum is open seven days a week).
