Job Summary The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a part-time (.75 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, Climate Science Instructor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.

Appointment at the Instructor rank is anticipated; however, higher rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the prosperous candidate.

The primary purpose of this position is to develop and deliver on-campus and online (ecampus) courses in climate and atmospheric sciences and meteorology for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at OSU. Courses may include a 100 level course in weather and climate, ATS 201 Climate Science, and upper division courses that support the climate science program and align with the incumbent's area of specialization. In addition to instruction, the incumbent will be responsible for course and curriculum development, online course and digital content development, in part in collaboration with other faculty, and coordination of online and face-to-face course content. This position may direct student research projects and internships and serve on student committees.

Key Responsibilities 80% - Instruction:
Teach courses on campus and online (Ecampus) in Climate Science and other courses aligned with the incumbent's skills and programmatic needs. Demonstrate command of the subject matter taught and undertake course and curriculum development and pedagogical development. Prepare and present class materials and assignments, grade assignments, and post student grades. Maintain office hours for courses. Maintain and update course content to meet programmatic needs and improve student success. Collaborate with other program faculty and OSU Ecampus on curriculum content and development. Dependent on course size, may supervise teaching adjuncts. Contribute to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts; provide mentoring and opportunities for students from underrepresented groups; enable the advancement of diverse perspectives; and promote equitable results among learners of diverse and underrepresented identity groups. Interact professionally, effectively, and in a timely fashion with students and University staff. Mentor and advise students on their development, including the choices they face relating to academic program, research projects, or career directions, and interact with students in more informal settings.

10% - Professional Currency and Program Development:
Engage in activities to maintain currency and sustain professional growth in the instructor's discipline and pedagogy. In coordination with the Climate Science Program Director and College administration, contribute to the development and success of the Climate Program through development and promotion of innovative learning opportunities for students, faculty mentoring in online teaching, or other areas consistent with personal skills and programmatic needs. Direct student research projects and internships, and serve on student committees as needed.

10% - Service:
Participate as needed on College and University committees and perform other service that contributes to the effectiveness of the College, University, and profession. This may include, but is not limited to, any of the following:
   » Serve or lead College and University-level committees, including advising student clubs.
   » Support program excellence through strategic planning and student recruitment efforts.
   » Serve professional societies or community organizations.
   » Participate in activities that increase and promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, such as search advocate training, diversity training, anti-racism pedagogy, or mentoring students from underrepresented groups.
   » Participate in outreach and engagement activities related to the academic program.

   » PhD in Climate Science, Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, or a closely related discipline by the start date of the position.

What We Would Like You to Have
   » Academic background in, or capability to teach, specialized coursework in one or more of the following areas: atmospheric chemistry, atmospheric radiation, climate dynamics, dynamics of weather systems, mesoscale meteorology, and/or thermodynamics.
   » practice teaching across modalities, including online courses in meteorology, atmospheric, and/or climate science, and proficiency with online teaching platforms such as Canvas.
   » Student mentoring or advising practice, including working with underrepresented groups.
   » practice in curriculum development or vision for course design and pedagogy.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule The incumbent may work remotely as agreed upon with the manager, but is expected to be available for on-campus (face to face) teaching assignments during fall, winter, and spring quarters and is required to hold on-campus office hours when teaching on-campus classes.
