The Knowlton School of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Planning (knowlton.osu.edu) at The Ohio State University invites applications for the Director of the school starting at the rank of Professor with tenure.
Position Overview
We invite applications for the next Director of the Knowlton School to start as early as Autumn 2025. The future Director of the school should be a bold, creative, and collaborative leader capable of upholding the mission of the school. The Knowlton School seeks an academic leader who can advance conversations and reaffirm Knowlton’s unwavering commitment to research, interdisciplinarity, and education for students of all backgrounds as our professions evolve. The Director is responsible for cultivating a cohesive and collaborative climate and culture across the school’s three sections: architecture, landscape architecture, and city and regional planning. The Section Heads all report to the Director. The Director also represents the school at the college and university levels, leads all aspects of school administration, and fosters an environment where faculty, staff, and students can thrive. The position is open to candidates who may require sponsorship for a visa or other work authorization.
Qualifications
Required
   » Prior academic practice at a research-intensive university
   » Demonstrated track record of academic leadership abilities, management, and collaboration
   » A record of teaching excellence and a commitment to health and well-being for undergraduate and graduate students
   » Excellent interpersonal and communication expertise with a focus on working constructively, decisively, and collegially with external and internal colleagues
   » Demonstrated faculty and student mentoring expertise
   » Demonstrated impact through research, scholarship, or other creative work
   » A terminal degree in architecture, landscape architecture, city and regional planning, or strongly allied field of study.
   » Credentials to be appointed at the rank of Professor in one of the academic sections within the Knowlton School

   » Demonstrated capability to facilitate, articulate, execute and/or steward a strategic vision.
   » Familiarity working with campus administrators and leaders
   » Interest in actively taking advantage of The Ohio State University as a comprehensive university
   » A availability to mentor a wide variety of faculty from diverse backgrounds and lived practices
   » practice with and/or curiosity for engagement across disciplinary boundaries
   » A commitment to cultivating an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students
   » An knowledge of and appreciation for professional practice
   » Demonstrated practice collaborating with alumni, campus leadership abilities, and other external stakeholders to expand financial resources for student aid, faculty research, hiring, and capital improvements
Position Expectations
   » Facilitate dialogue across the three sections of the school to develop a strategic vision for the future and steward that collective vision
   » Encourage, support, and champion scholarship, educational investigations, and activities by faculty, staff, and students
   » Lead the school’s programs and operations in conformity with the Pattern Of Administration (POA; https://oaa.osu.edu/sites/default/files/links_files/Architecture-POA-rev-06 -2024.pdf) and the school’s Appointments, Promotion, and Tenure (APT; https://oaa.osu.edu/sites/default/files/links_files/Architecture-APT-rev-08 -2023.pdf) procedures
   » Cultivate and value relationships with alumni, donors, professional communities, and other external stakeholders.
