Position Summary Information

Position Summary: The TECTA Coordinator is responsible for administering TECTA non-credit coursework and implementing TECTA statewide early childhood initiatives.

Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.

Primary tasks and Job responsibilities:
   » Administer and teach the TECTA non-credit coursework using statewide TECTA curriculum for specified specialty areas.
   » Implement TECTA Statewide Early Childhood Initiatives.
   » Promote TECTA communications through newsletters, website(s), targeted mailings, on-site visits, phone calls, personal contacts, etc., to recruit students and advance the early childhood profession.
   » Collect and report weekly and monthly data to TECTA databases.
   » Conduct on-site visits for CDA students to provide technical assistance, advisement and assessment.
   » Provide leadership abilities and support to child care providers, early childhood organizations and partner agencies through committee membership, conference presentations, technical assistance and related special projects at the local, state and national level.
   » Attend professional development training through local, state and national organizations/agencies to stay abreast of early childhood trends and issues.
   » Perform other job-related tasks as assigned

   » capability to deliver the TECTA Orientation curriculum, as written, either in person, via Zoom, or using Elearn.
   » capability to efficiently operate a personal computer and connected software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and SungardHE Banner.
   » capability to communicate effectively and appropriately, in writing and in presentations.
   » capability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
   » capability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public.
   » capability to detect and correct grammatical and spelling errors in written correspondence.
   » capability to maintain files accurately, in paper and in software programs.
   » capability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
   » capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
   » capability to effectively implement the TECTA Orientation Program and Statewide Early Childhood Initiatives.
   » capability to accurately interpret national and state child care regulations/standards.
   » capability to work a flexible schedule to include week nights and Saturdays.
   » capability to travel in an eleven county area for and to regional meetings.
Physical Requirements:
   » capability to stand for up to 3 hours at a time while facilitating workshops;
   » capability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
   » Minimum of an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Child and Family Studies, or closely related field.
   » A minimum of one (1) year of professional work practice in instruction or administration within a child care facility or Early Childhood Education (ECE) program. Preschool classroom practice preferred.
   » Child Development Associate Credential or availability to obtain CDA within the first year of employment.
   » A valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
   » A background check will be required of the prosperous applicant.
   » An official transcript and names, addresses and phone numbers of three (3) references will be required for the prosperous applicant.
