Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Political Science is one of sixteen departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

The Department is comprised of 17 full-time faculty. Information technology offers BS and BA degrees in political science and minors in public administration, comparative politics/international relations, leadership abilities studies, and security studies at the undergraduate level. Information technology is also home to the multidisciplinary studies majors in security studies and international studies. At the graduate level, Information technology offers a
NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration degree, a Master of Science in Security Studies and certificates in public management and security studies. The department emphasizes excellent teaching, quality research, and a tradition of service to the community, the university, and the discipline. Job tasks Assist in the creation and proofreading of invitations, flyers, programs, and certificates for various department functions such as graduation and awards ceremonies. This includes checking spelling, punctuation, grammar, formatting, and graphic design. Assist with the coordination of graduation ceremonies, including organization of the event and participation on that day. Assist with event planning and execution for other departmental events including open house, orientation, guest speakers, etc.

Know the policies and procedures of the University and location of various campus units (or how to find them), as well as being informed about departmental activities and programs, in order to make a favorable impression when dealing with individuals on- and off-campus. There is broad public contact everyday with other academic and administrative units on campus, faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, vendors, technicians, alumni and parents on campus as well as the general public via telephone, e-mail, and in-person interactions. Use software including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat professional, Internet Explorer, ECU Student Database, Chrome River, Banner Admin Pages, ECU Banner Self Service, Pirate Port, PORT, PETS, 25 LIVE, People Admin, and MS Outlook. Assist with the maintenance of the department and Center for Survey Research (CSR) websites utilizing WordPress. Maintain necessary supplies for the department and CSR, including assessing inventory, placing orders in PORT, receiving orders from vendors, and processing returns as needed. Assist with maintenance of all common areas the department and CSR control. Train in new technologies, systems, and processes on campus, as necessary, to maintain the efficient adaptation and operation of the department.

Process faculty and student travel while adhering to travel guidelines mandated by the state budgeting office to include (as needed) making travel arrangements, processing late memos, and arranging for reimbursement and direct payment requests.

Assist with student advising as a liaison between faculty advisors and Banner Administrative Pages including declarations of majors, minors, and concentrations; special adding students to classes, assigning faculty advisors, etc. The position will also input DegreeWorks exceptions as instructed by program directors. This position is responsible for assisting with entering and maintaining class schedules in Banner for both undergraduate- and graduate-level courses. They are also sometimes the first point of contact for students who are seeking information about our programs and therefore play an important function in the recruitment of new graduate and undergraduate students.

Draft and maintain all departmental graduate adjunct contracts, EPAFs, performance evaluations, and admission applications. In addition to maintaining the records, this position is a primary point of contact for information and assistance for the graduate program directors and graduate students.
