Job Summary This is an Internal Employment Opportunity.

The College of Business is seeking an Academic Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The position supports the primary mission of the University, College of Business (COB), and COB Student Success Center. The individual holding the position serves as an Academic Advisor and assists undergraduate students with a full range of support including orientation, academic program planning, course selection, registration, experiential learning, and career planning. The Academic Advisor monitors student progress, and suggests and implements corrective actions when students encounter academic difficulties. The Academic Advisor coordinates with other University departments regarding undergraduate academic courses that support degree programs. The Academic Advisor also works with the student information system and various data files and sources, and prepares a wide variety of reports using multiple databases and spreadsheets. The Academic Advisor keeps abreast of University and College policies and procedures, and rules and regulations to assist students in meeting academic requirements. The Academic Advisor also assumes leadership abilities functions that support academic programs and special projects managed by the COB Student Success Center. COB Academic Advisors work with students pursuing degrees in the areas of business and design, and may assist students studying on-campus, online, at the Portland (PDX) center, and the Cascades Campus (located in Bend).

Key Responsibilities 85% ACADEMIC ADVISING - Provide academic advising to College of Business prospective, incoming, and continuing students including those pursuing degrees in Design and Business. Monitor progress of approximately 250-300 College of Business Ecampus students and up to 100 non-business and non-design students (minors), with a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all students. Enforce university and college academic standards. Suggest corrective strategies and actions when necessary. Assist students and collaborate with faculty with academic program planning, course selection and sequencing, major/minor application requirements, and registration issues. Provide guidance to undergraduate students regarding experiential opportunities and student success strategies. Meet with first-year students on academic warning and academic probation and conduct outreach as required. Articulate transfer courses and evaluate transfer credits as needed for major, minor, certificate, and Baccalaureate Core requirements in conjunction with program directors. Offer referrals when appropriate. Create and/or present student workshops as needed. Work with COB Orientation Program (START) coordinator to deliver START presentations to new admits. Maintain accurate notes and records of student progress in files and MyDegrees. Enter exceptions into MyDegrees for advisees. Conduct graduation audits quarterly for undergraduate programs, including proper notification to students and Registrar's Office.

10% ACADEMIC PROGRAM SUPPORT AND SPECIAL PROJECTS - Program and project assignments will be made by the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Student Development or by the Head Advisor. Assignments will support activities managed by the COB Student Success Center, which may include retention, student support, experiential learning opportunities, financial aid, curriculum, orientation, recruitment, and tutoring services.

5% PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT - Engage in continuing training and professional development opportunities to improve individual advising practices and programs/projects managed by the COB Student Success Center, particularly those that enhance knowledge and implementation of DEI principles, fostering a culture of continuous learning and inclusivity. Examples include attending workshops, webinars, and conferences, participating on institutional committees and/or outside significant organizations, and mentorship. Ensure that DEI principles are integrated into all initiatives, promoting equitable access and support for students from diverse backgrounds.

   » Demonstrated professional oral and written communication expertise, utilizing inclusive language and the capability to communicate with tact and diplomacy across diverse cultural boundaries with students and colleagues.
   » Demonstrated organizational, time management, and project management expertise.
   » Demonstrated capability to work with multiple computer applications and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite, spreadsheets, and databases.
   » Keen attention to detail.
   » Demonstrated collaborative expertise in multi-office projects.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

What We Would Like You to Have
   » Master's degree from an accredited institution; OR a Master's degree in progress from an accredited institution.

   » One year, full-time professional practice as an academic advisor in a higher education setting.
   » practice working and communicating effectively in a remote team setting.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM PST. Some evening and weekend work may be required. Alternate hours to meet a 40-hour workweek can be considered, as agreed upon by the employee and manager, to meet the diverse needs of the Ecampus student population.

Hybrid and/or remote work is standard for the COB Ecampus Advising team with flexibility regarding the primary work location, but exceptions to work on campus in Corvallis can be considered, as agreed upon by the employee and manager.
