Position description

The Department of Architecture at the University of California Berkeley invites candidates for the Creedon Design Fellowship, a one-year term academic research appointment. The fellowship was recently established through a generous endowment created by Gerard (Roddy) Creedon who, until 2021, led undergraduate studios for nearly twenty years. The purpose of the fellowship is to give promising individuals near the beginning of their career an opportunity to pursue academic and teaching interests. Early career is defined as no more than five (5) years prior teaching practice and no more than ten (10) years since completion of the significant graduate degree at the time of the application process. The prosperous candidate will be selected located on demonstrated excellence in the candidate's design work and, if applicable, the work of their students, along with the capability to make connections between their research interests and their studio teaching.

The Creedon Fellow will be expected to commence Fall 2025 with a term of one year. The appointment will be at the level of Lecturer 50%/Research Specialist 50%. The prosperous candidate is expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the College and engage in critical, theoretical, and/or creative work. This work will be presented through a public lecture and/or exhibition or other means of dissemination. The Fellow may be asked to teach in both graduate and undergraduate programs. The teaching load will consist of three courses per academic year -- two design studios and a seminar related to their research/creative work. Studio assignments will be determined located on consciousness of department needs in conjunction with the fellow's interests. In addition to teaching responsibilities, general tasks include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), maintaining a course website, and using a learning management system( e.g. bCourses at UC Berkeley, Canvas, etc.).

Diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and justice (DEIBJ) are core values at UC Berkeley. Our excellence can only be fully realized by faculty, students, and academic and non academic staff who share our commitment to these values. The Department of Architecture is committed to covering DEIBJ issues in its hiring, admissions, and curriculum. The prosperous candidate will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to advancing DEIBJ.
