Job Summary The Division of Extension and Engagement is seeking a Climate Change Curriculum Facilitator for the Extension Outdoor School Program. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. This position is funded by the USDA National Institute for Food and Agriculture's Youth Innovators Empowering Agriculture Across America Coordination Network grant which goes through May 31, 2028.

The Outdoor School Climate Change Curriculum Facilitator will perform responsibilities for the Division of Extension and Engagement's (division) USDA National Institute for Food and Agriculture's (NIFA) Youth Innovators Empowering Agriculture Across America Coordination Network (YEA-CN TIYA) grant project. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position housed within the Division's Extension Outdoor School program. The Climate Change Curriculum Facilitator reports to the Director of the Outdoor School program.

The YEA-CN Climate Change Curriculum project involves leading the development of youth climate change curriculum with an emphasis on smart agriculture and forestry. The Climate Change Curriculum Facilitator is responsible for facilitating the development of climate change lesson plans for use with youth in U.S. states, U.S. insular areas, and Tribal Nations as part of a multiyear project funded by USDA NIFA. This work will involve leading and facilitating climate curriculum development among writers and internal and external partners.

The Facilitator will provide primary coordination for the project, including but not limited to: working with Division faculty and staff to develop and strengthen collaborations with partners (such as educators and professionals at land-grant universities, including tribal colleges and universities); managing contracted writing team leaders and curriculum writers from diverse partner organizations; developing and implementing pilot program(s) for testing and revision of lesson plans; and managing the project budget. This person will help develop and execute a comprehensive curriculum plan for the project that is inclusive, equitable, and reflects the multi-dimensional diversity of youth. The YEA-CN Climate Change Curriculum project is one of several projects, across institutions, funded under the NIFA YEA program. All YEA projects are part of a coordinated network that is managed by the OSU Division of Extension and Engagement through a YEA-CN grant.

This facilitator's outreach activities will be included in the annual plan of work, impact statements and summary of accomplishments/achievements. In addition, this individual helps ensure that Extension and Engagement educational, informational and promotional content and efforts serve broad and diverse populations in an accessible, inclusive, equitable, and socially just manner. This includes complying with Civil Rights and Language/Visual Access regulations.

About Extension Outdoor School:
The Outdoor School Climate Change Curriculum Facilitator contributes to the Outdoor School program's mission to guide and support equitable, culturally responsive, and interdisciplinary outdoor school programs for Oregon's youth.

The Outdoor School program resides within the OSU Extension Service and advances the Extension Service's vision, mission, and goals through the statewide engagement of School Districts and Education Service Districts (ESDs) in outdoor school programming. The Outdoor School program helps Oregon's youth apply learning; develop leadership abilities, critical thinking, and social expertise; and exposes them to the function of scientific inquiry and applied learning. The long-term goal of the Outdoor School program is to integrate placed-located programs into the Oregon school system that build upon youth's expertise in hands-on science and their abilities to be effective stewards and leaders in their communities.

Outdoor School is intended for all 5th or 6th graders in the state of Oregon. The Outdoor School program works with school districts across the state or in their regions to maximize participation by providing support in the funding application and reporting process, promoting inclusive community engagement, and working with districts to implement creative, community-specific solutions to outdoor school participation barriers. Key Responsibilities 70% - Project Facilitation and Management:
   » Along with the principal investigator (PI) and project staff, facilitate the management of the project to ensure achievement of project results and objectives related to developing a comprehensive climate curriculum that aligns with USDA and AFRI Farm Bill priorities.
   » Coordinate the logistics of climate change curriculum content development, including facilitating the development of a curriculum conceptual framework, lesson plan scope and sequence, and lesson plan templates.
   » Supervise three writing team managers and 20 lesson writers to create 100 high quality climate lessons as part of a comprehensive curriculum package that ensures access by underserved/underrepresented youth, rural and urban youth, youth in insular areas, and tribal youth.
   » Develop writing training plan for curriculum lesson writers and facilitate hiring and training of lesson writers.
   » Facilitate development of YEA Climate Change Curriculum Youth Advisory Committee.
   » Through collaborations with partners and lesson writing teams, ensure lessons are rooted in cultural responsiveness and positive youth development, engage in the most up-to-date and research-located pedagogies, and are cross walked with national science standards.
   » Facilitate quality control and lesson editing to ensure alignment with curriculum framework and foundational ideas, scope and sequence, and lesson plan templates.
   » Coordinate a schedule for rollout of entire lesson portfolio over project timeline, including developing and implementing pilot program(s) for testing and revision of lesson plans.
   » Coordinate development, review, and production of lessons to ensure they are fully accessible to a variety of learners and are culturally responsive.
   » Collaborate with writing teams and instructional designers from the Division's Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) unit to develop 20 essential lessons into self-paced, online interactive modules for direct student learning.
   » Facilitate development of evaluation framework, including documentation of development process with evaluation criteria.
   » Evaluate lesson plan use, feedback, and online module use for continuous improvement and additional outreach efforts to increase reach of curriculum.

15% - Communication:
   » Manage relationships between writing teams and project partners.
   » Collaborate and communicate with project staff on programmatic needs and direction.
   » Manage lesson repository, and review and coordinate information on the project website to ensure Information technology is updated and user friendly.
   » Provide climate resources for YEA-CN national clearinghouse.

10% - Professional Development Planning and Facilitation:
   » Develop and provide professional development training for formal and non-formal educators to ensure effective lesson delivery to students. Trainings to be customized to educator audiences, students/youth whom they serve, and available in a variety of formats including in-person and online (synchronous and asynchronous).

5% - Professional Growth and Special Projects:
   » Attend and represent project team at NIFA YEA events, including the YEA-CN National Steering Committee and meetings, conferences, and trainings.
   » Maintain professional competencies by attending conferences and engaging in professional development opportunities, especially related to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility research and approaches.

   » Bachelor's Degree in discipline related to the work of the Division such as: Agriculture, Economics, Education, Evaluation, Forestry, Positive Youth Development, Human Development and Family Studies, Public Health, or related field.
