Our faculty and students pursue interests and scholarship in literature, creative writing, technical and professional communication, rhetoric and composition, multicultural and transnational literature, folklore, film studies, linguistics, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). Our department offers four degrees: a B.A. in English; a B.S. in Professional Writing and Information Design; an MA in English; and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication. The department also offers undergraduate minors in English, creative writing, film studies, linguistics, and professional writing and information design. The department also supports general education for all majors across the university through Writing Foundations courses and courses that contribute to writing intensive, diversity, humanities, and social science general education requirements. Job tasks The Department of English at East Carolina University (http://english.ecu.edu) is seeking to fill one fixed-term faculty position with the title of Teaching adjunct Professor specializing in composition to begin in August 2024. This is a full-time non-tenure-track position with an initial appointment up to three-years and the possibility of subsequent appointments. The full-time teaching load is typically four courses per semester. Teaching will consist of face-to-face courses, with the possibility that some online courses may be assigned, depending on department and university need. Depending upon a candidate's credentials, as well as the needs in the department, the Chair may assign other courses and/or tasks besides composition teaching. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. income is competitive and commensurate with qualifications, and full-time positions include benefits. Minimum Education/practice A PhD in English or a related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, or Technical Communication, is required. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
