Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill three part-time (minimum of 10 hours and a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Facilities/Maintenance positions for the Memorial Union Lanes and Games at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Memorial Union (MU) is the campus student union and a department of the division of Student Affairs. The MU is geographically located in the middle of the campus and is considered the ?living room of campus?. The MU welcomes students, faculty, staff, visitors and the local community to campus, and its mission is to provide learning practices and opportunities for personal growth in an open, inclusive and resource-rich community where student and staff collaborate with a Student Advisory Board, who are influential to the character and scope of the department and provide the budget recommendations for the facilities the MU is charged with, services and programs. The MU provides community centered inclusive facilities and space that creates an environment for building significant relationships. The Memorial Union exists to develop students, create learning opportunities and provide quality facilities and services.

This position provides an individual the opportunity to get hands on practice troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment. Information technology requires new hires to watch machines operating normally and commit to memory the names and workings of all parts. The applicant must be genuinely curious about how things work and how to make repairs when machines do not function appropriately.

The applicant will work under Lanes & Games Sr. Mechanic to provide preventative maintenance to bowling machines and repair machines when they break down.

Mechanic Apprentices spend at least one term on the job and performing routine maintenance by taking direction and instruction directly from their lead. Once they are trained and deemed competent to work independently and can prosperously complete needed repairs they will be encouraged to do so.

Anticipated Hourly Rate: $15.90

Position tasks
   » Clean and fine tune bowling machines
   » Troubleshoot problems when issues arise
   » Effectively repair broken machines
   » Install new equipment
   » Assist with parts inventory and shop safety (clean up and storage of materials)
   » Monitor the online Teams board and maintenance connection for mechanical issues reported by front desk staff
   » Be available to report to work promptly to support continuing operations when problems arise with machines during assigned on-call period
   » Provide a high level of customer service

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

   » Must be able to work weekends during academic school year
   » Mechanical aptitude and a availability to lgain on the job via online learning, troubleshooting guides and repetitive preventive maintenance tasks

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
   » practice with Bowling Pinsetters and everyday bowling operations
   » Mechanical practice repairing vehicles, farm implements or machinery
   » Engineering or Mechanical academic & extracurricular practice is preferred but not required

Working Conditions / Work Schedule The student worker may be required to work up to an approximate 24 hours per week.
