Organizational Unit Overview The School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU) is composed of 17 departments which function to: 1) provide health care for the citizens of eastern North Carolina; 2) educate primary care physicians to meet the health care needs of eastern North Carolina; and 3) make medical education available to minority and underprivileged people. The Department of Medicine (herein referred to as Medicine), the university's largest department and, arguably, its most differentiated academic unit, is a primary contributor to the missions of medical education, patient care, research, and community service.

Playing an important function in the School of Medicine's academic group practice, the Department of Medicine consists of a core administrative unit, five divisions and eleven subspecialties. Individuals serving in primary functions within the department are grouped in organizations termed divisions, and these divisions are administered as units by the Clinical Department Administrator and four vice chairmen. The primary functions of education (students, residents, fellows and continuing medical education), clinical services (primary care, tertiary care, avoidance, intensive care and long-term care), research (basic bench research, clinical trials and health systems), academic affairs/faculty development, and administration (finance and support services) are serviced through the operational divisions (reference organizational chart).

The clinical divisions represented in Medicine include: Immunologic Diseases (Allergy, Immunology & Rheumatology); Bone Marrow Transplant Services; Cardiology; Dermatology; Diabetes and Obesity Center; Endocrinology & Metabolism; Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition; General Internal Medicine; Hematology/Oncology; Infectious Diseases; Nephrology; and Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine. Faculty number sixty-six attending physicians and four research doctorates. Physician faculty represent close to 100 identifiable clinical venues in internal medicine, and each are members of clinical divisions.

Job tasks This position exists to supervise and coordinate the overall operations of the GI fellowship program and GI division. The tasks of this position include, but are not limited to the following: recruitment, onboarding, and retention of trainees; distribution and supervision of anonymous evaluation reports for the program; facilitation of committee meetings, including collecting and preparing aggregate trainee data and submitting significant reports; preparation of confidential semi-annual and annual evaluations of trainees; coordination; maintaining program accreditation and compliance with ACGME and other accrediting body rules, including ensuring completion of in-training exams, duty hour compliance, submission of required ACGME, AAMC, ABIM, etc, updates, and other responsibilities; coordination of monthly staff meetings; preparation of annual reports; authoring correspondence; interpretation and communication of policies and procedures; facilities/space management; and other organizational and administrative responsibilities.

Minimum Education/practice Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
