Primary Function of Organizational Unit The College of Health and Human Performance consists of 6 academic departments including Kinesiology, Health Education and Promotion, Recreation Sciences, Interior Design and Merchandising, Human Development, and Family Science, and the School of Social Work.
This position will be housed in the Department of Human Development and Family Science and with the Nancy W. Darden Child Development Center (NDCDC). The NDCDC is an early childhood educational program operated by the department. Information technology provides early education and cares to preschool children ages 6 months through 5 years. Departmental undergraduate students complete practicums and internships in the NDCDC. The position will report to the Director of the NDCDC, who reports to the Department Chair.

Job tasks
   » To provide for the care, safety, and well-being of all children in the group
   » To implement a model training classroom that complies with all North Carolina licensing regulations, sanitation, and NAEYC health and safety best practices for young children
   » To assist in the evaluation of the classroom at the end of each semester and to make everyday adjustments as needed
   » To maintain a physical environment that meets the changing needs of young children
   » To handle any special situations and emergencies that may arise
   » Serves as a model clinical teacher for university students, volunteers, and practicing professionals who may visit the NDCDC
   » To participate in staff meetings, discussions, and continuing training regarding the program, children, and families.
   » Support faculty participation in and utilization of the classroom in regard to related courses
   » Coordinate the utilization of practicum students, interns, and volunteers in the classroom
   » The capability to communicate effectively with young children using approved interaction techniques.
   » To work cooperatively with the NDCDC staff in the provision of education and care to mixed-age groups of preschool children.
   » The capability to plan, prepare, and present nutritious snacks for young children.
   » A general expertise of nutrition, health, and first aid. The capability to communicate effectively with young children using approved interaction techniques.
   » To demonstrate a sound expertise of child growth and development and good teaching practices.
   » Serve as a model teacher for students, volunteers, and practicing professionals who may visit the NDCDC.
   » Implement the Creative Curriculum in planning for young children in all areas of development.
   » The capability to apply expertise of developmental levels to children's activities and differentiate among those levels to meet individual child's needs.
   » The capability to supervise both small and large groups of children at the same time.
   » Other tasks as assigned

Assessment
   » To demonstrate a sound expertise of developmentally appropriate practices for child development.
   » Instruct, supervise, and evaluate students assigned to the classroom for observation and practicum practices.
   » Utilize the Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment tool to guide planning and inform families of their child's development.
   » To provide specific information to families about their child's development and well being
   » Maintain effective interpersonal interactions with families.
   » Encourage family participation in the classroom environment.
   » contingent on the availcapability of funding

Minimum Education/practice High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related childcare practice; or equivalent combination of training and practice.
