Minimum Qualifications

Requires an Associate's degree in information technology, networking technology, or related field supplemented by three to five years responsible practice in networking technology; or an equivalent combination of education, training and practice that provides the required expertise, expertise and abilities.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Requirements : Must be physically able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including various computer equipment, telephone, fax machine, etc. Must be able to exert up to forty pounds of force occasionally and/or up to twenty pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve lifting, walking or standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of twenty to forty pounds.

Data Conception : Requires the capability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

Interpersonal Communications : Requires the capability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving direction and instruction from manager. Includes the capability to provide instruction and guidance on technical computer program use to computer users in layman's terms.

Language capability : Requires capability to read a variety of policies and procedures, instructions, etc. Requires the capability to prepare required documentation and correspondence, etc. with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Intelligence : Requires the capability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Must have the capability to comprehend and interpret received information.

Verbal Aptitude : Requires the capability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions; to counsel and teach employees. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical and/or professional languages including various computer languages.

Numerical Aptitude : Requires the capability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to use mathematical formulas, to determine percentages and decimals and to determine time. Must be able to use practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.

Form/Spatial Aptitude : Requires the capability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.

Motor Coordination : Requires the capability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery; to operate motor vehicles.

Manual Dexterity : Requires the capability to handle a variety of items, keyboards, office equipment, control knobs, buttons, switches, catches, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

Color Discrimination and Visual Acuity: Requires the capability to differentiate colors and shades of color; requires the visual acuity to determine depth perception, peripheral vision, inspection for small parts; preparing and analyzing written or computer data, etc.

Interpersonal Temperament : Requires the capability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to executeing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.

Physical Communications : Requires the capability to talk and hear: (talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear).

Position Description

Under general supervision, performs technical work in superviseing the security of the College's network infrastructure. The work involves everyday monitoring of network activity, threat assessments; planning, and directing activities related to both our internal and external network infrastructure, connectivity, and network management applications; monitoring the hardware of the college's network to include routers, switches, firewalls, DHCP servers, DNS servers, packet filters, intrusion detection, VOIP, and VPN gateways. Reports to the Network Administrator.
Monitors everyday logs and scans to detect and defend against malicious attacks to the College's infrastructure and ensures that proper level of security is maintained on all network devices.

Deploys, configures, maintains, troubleshoots, and monitors active network equipment designed to implement security measures

Analyzes security alerts and bulletins issued by various entities of potential attacks. Reviewing data generated by firewall monitors such as IDS and firewall logs on external or internal intrusion attempts; coordinating corrective action to network systems known to have any security weaknesses or vulnerabilities; and implementing quality of service controls all over

Develops and support user security consciousness programs, such as KnowB4 for user responses to phishing attempts, Akami DNS monitoring and monitors VPN access by employees and third parties.

Operates a variety of office and specialized equipment including tone generator, continuity tester, personal computers, printers, network server devices, cable tester, etc.

Uses a variety of tools and supplies such as diagonal cutters, scissors, stripper, crimper, cable, RJ-45 connectors, hand tools, network tool kit, printer supplies, cable, general office supplies, etc.; and a variety of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Datatel, Track-It, Cisco Works, ?sniffer?, Corel WordPerfect, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Net Watcher, OGRE, ISS, etc.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Director of Infrastructure Services, all Pitt Community College computer users, faculty department chairs, division heads, technical adjuncts, OITS computer support staff, etc.

Determines effectively appropriate hardware and software requirements for various operations.

Installs new equipment and systems; provides professional, efficient user support and assistance.

Performs related tasks as directed.
