The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the Herff College of Engineering University of Memphis is seeking qualified candidates for an adjunct/Associate Professor of Teaching position. This is a twelve-month, non-tenure track appointment. The adjunct/Associate Professor of Teaching will contribute to undergraduate education primarily at the Memphis campus though teaching at off-campus sites or virtually may be required. Teaching in the summer, serving as instructor for the senior design sequence, and advising of undergraduate majors in the Electrical Engineering and the Computer Engineering Programs on their curriculum may also be required. The typical teaching load is 3 to 4 courses per semester, depending on other service activities. All candidates able to contribute to instructional excellence in our undergraduate programs are encouraged to apply. The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department presently has 11 tenured/tenure-track faculty positions and a total enrollment of about 332 students: 283 pursuing a B.S. degree, and 54 pursuing graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) degrees. All degree programs offer flexibility to focus academic and research studies in the areas of: (1) signals and systems; (2) electrical and computer systems; (3) biomedical systems; and (4) intelligent information systems. Our faculty are known for both their contributions to science and engineering and their shared passion for teaching and inspiring students to explore and discover new ways to improve the quality of life.
The city of Memphis is an attractive location in Tennessee, and is world-renowned for its music, food, and hospitality. Memphis is home to three Fortune 500 companies (FedEx, International Paper, and AutoZone) and has a strong presence in health, biomedical devices, transportation, automotive, aero-propulsion and entertainment industries. The Herff College has many partnerships with local industry for both research and education applications.
Candidates must have a strong commitment to undergraduate instruction and curriculum development. practice teaching electrical and computer engineering courses and developing electrical and computer engineering curricula in an ABET/EAC accredited program is preferred.
The anticipated start date is August 15, 2024. candidates should have a PhD or a Master's degree with 2 years of professional practice in electrical and computer engineering or related disciplines. The PhD or MS degree must have been earned from an accredited program in Engineering or a closely related discipline. practice in college teaching and curriculum development in engineering is desired.
