General Description: The Associate Director of Advising, Career, and Transfer collaborates with college faculty, staff, and administrators to design, develop, and implement innovative programs and adapt existing programs and support services to support student retention and graduation. Responsible for managing the departmental assessment process and ensuring that Information technology ties directly to student learning results and for enhancing student success by monitoring the programs and services offered by Advising, Career and Transfer (ACT) as well as the Assessment Center. The Associate Director also assists the Director with departmental and employee managery responsibilities. The Associate Director will assist with budget development and management, with the implementation of goals and initiatives of the Student Development division, and with the institution and all aspects of program assessment. This individual will serve as a campus resource for students, faculty, and colleagues.

Characteristics, tasks, and Job responsibilities: • Promote on time graduation through the implementation of scalable retention related activities, coordinates First Time/ Full Time cohort for Advising, Career and Transfer Services and advisement initiatives to improve on-time degree completion.
• Develop, analyze, and provide reports in dashboard format for first-time, full-time cohorts and other areas and aspects as needed.
• Design, plan, conduct and evaluate departmental assessment programs, procedures and activities and analyze institutional effectiveness for accreditation and planning purposes.
• Implement communication plan for new and returning students and analyze results to ensure meeting strategic goals.
• Coordinates, monitors, and assesses Mandatory New Student Orientation on all three campuses.
• Evaluate data to identify causes of student attrition and provide recommendations for solutions, alternative systems, and procedures to increase retention to promote continuous improvement.
• Manage the operation of Student Planning, and other Colleague modules used in ACT and work with the Registrar's Office and Information Technologies to develop rules, policies, and procedures for Student Planning and other Colleague modules used in ACT.
• Work with external constituents as necessary to assist in implementation of retention programs.
• Supervises Student Services Generalist and Student Services Associates in the One-Stop on assigned campuses.
• Design and implement evaluation and follow-up to determine the effectiveness, performance, and future needs of programs.
• Monitors, updates, and maintains departmental website; portal; and social media sites, including but not limited to Face Book, Twitter.
• Facilitates workshops and programs to faculty, students, and staff that are geared to increase student consciousness, retention, and graduation success.
• Creates and maintains collaborative relationships, communication, and outreach methods with colleagues to effectively facilitate retention efforts and improve service to students.
• Conducts periodic assessment of departmental/staff accuracy/effectiveness of advisement in order identify and rectify patterns of concerns/issues.
• Surveys, conducts assessments, submits proposals, prepares annual reports, and maintains appropriate records as required by the Division of Student Development.
• Provides assistance to students with enrollment/registration including advising students regarding college programs, courses and course/program requirements, transfer articulation, and dual admission agreements.
• Assists the Director of Advising, Career and Transfer (ACT) with leading, developing, coordinating, and administering Advising, Career and Transfer (ACT) programs, and evaluates the effectiveness of these services and programs, and coordinates these plans and programs in conformity with the Matrix, Student Success Plan, and Institutional Effectiveness Plan.
• Assists the Director of Advising, Career and Transfer in monitoring, coordinating, and evaluating staff functions and professional development. Provide staff training for the Advising, Career and Transfer (ACT) department.
• Performs related responsibilities as assigned by manager or designee.

Education Requirements: Master's Degree in Student Personnel Services, Student Development or Student Affairs Administration or a Master's Degree in a related area required.

practice: Two (2) years' practices in college counseling and academic advising or equivalent.

Competencies and expertise Required: • Preferred Colleague system database expertise and practice.
• Should be a ?quick study? to rapidly grasp expertise relating to the business process embodied in the College's Ellucian Colleague system and College data standards policy and rules.
• Strong interpersonal, organization and communication expertise required.
• Proficiency with MS office products including Excel and Access and web page development and maintenance.
• Analytical and problem-solving expertise.
• Excellent customer service, oral and written communication expertise, including capability to communicate effectively with a diverse external community and a diverse campus community.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment: • This position's tasks are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, located on the activity scheduled.

• Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

• capability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and extended hours when necessary.

• No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

• Some travel required.

income: $70,000 - $75,000

Terms of Employment: Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. capability and availability to travel on short notice to all on and off campus sites as needed by the college. Assignment will include multiple UCNJ Union College of Union County, NJ campuses. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
