Department Counseling Center (MSA)
Position Title Specialist 2-Counselor
Job Title Staff Counselor
Appointment Type Professional Faculty
Job Location Corvallis
Benefits Eligible Full-Time, benefits eligible
Remote or Hybrid option? Yes
Job Summary Counseling and Psychological Services is seeking two Staff Counselors. These are full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty positions.

Oregon State University's (OSU) Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) is strongly committed to affirming diversity in a broad sense, to treating all with dignity and respect, and to opposing discrimination, prejudice, and oppression. Because OSU is a predominantly white institution (PWI), Information technology is especially critical that we understand the practices and needs of non-dominant students and staff, and that we provide support that is specifically designed to meet those needs. We recognize that, like most PWI's, our ways of supporting students and staff from non-dominant groups have been inadequate, and we have begun to work on doing better. This includes continually looking for ways to make our services more culturally responsive, including our hiring practices. We consider cultural humility to be an essential qualification for any CAPS position, and look for candidates who share this value with us. We are an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity employer, and strongly encourage applications from members of historically underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, LGBTQ+ community members, and others who demonstrate the capability to help us achieve our vision of a diverse and inclusive community.

The Staff Counselor is a 12-month full-time position that reports to a member of the CAPS senior leadership abilities team (which includes the Executive Director, Senior Director of Clinical Services, and Director of Training). The primary purpose of this position is to enhance student success by providing culturally responsive clinical services, including the assessment and treatment of students. In addition, this position provides consultation to OSU community members, preventative and educational outreach initiatives, and training of doctoral interns and other graduate trainees.

CAPS is committed to providing a range of culturally responsive services to help students succeed. These services are designed to help students understand themselves better, create and maintain satisfying relationships, improve their academic performance, foster resilience, and make healthy and satisfying career and life choices. We do this by providing consultation, single session interventions, psychoeducation, web-located support, crisis support during business hours, group counseling, and brief individual counseling when indicated. Additionally, if long-term care is needed we will make referrals to health care providers in the community.
