Job Summary The School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term, Faculty Research adjunct position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the School Head. The Faculty Research adjunct will support sponsored research on underwater manipulation with a focus on soft robotics. Responsibilities will include designing and fabricating experimental setups and testbeds, collecting data, analyzing data, and producing research deliverables such as codebases, plots, visualizations, etc. They will write research papers. This position will work with and assign, review, and approve the work of undergraduate students working in the lab. They will also assist the undergraduate students with technical papers and annual reports. They may also collaborate with graduate students working on similar projects. Key Responsibilities 25% Design soft robotic hardware for underwater manipulation studies, including waterproof tactile sensors, a soft robotic gripper, and a multi-segment soft robotic arm 25% Design and conduct experiments including materials testing (i.e. tensile testing), blocked force tests, and tactile sensor point loading tests 25% Interpret, analyze, and visualize sensor datasets using Matlab and Python 12.5% Write research papers and presentations describing the research method and findings 12.5% Collaborate with graduate students on their research projects and direct the activities of undergraduate student workers Work collaboratively with staff, faculty, and students to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive research environment.
