Primary Purpose of Department Primary purpose of academic advising at the university is to provide students with the support needed to prosperously navigate their academic practice from first enrollment to graduation.

Primary Purpose of Position The primary purpose of this position is the commitment to engaging students in personal development and self-assessment, teaching students how to effectively manage their academic success and supporting students through exploration of their major and career development plans. The person hired into this function supports students in reaching their expected objectives of developing plans consistent with their interests, abilities, and aspirations; and guiding them to utilize available resources to achieve their long-term goals. The prosperous individual ensures that students have access to accurate and significant information so that they can take initiative and responsibility for their success. The individual hired upholds the expectations and standards of advising at Charlotte in a professional and respectful manner that reflects an appreciation for students from all backgrounds.

Summary of Position Responsibilities Individual Assistance:
The Associate Director will assume advising responsibilities for any assigned student wherein the function is placed within the College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences at UNC Charlotte. Depending on the assigned advisee caseload, the advisor must have the capability to work autonomously while also being able to work in a complex, team-oriented academic office building strong alliances with faculty and other campus partners that support the holistic development of students. The advisor must have a commitment to student success and the capability to listen and analyze academic needs.

tasks supporting the College :
The Associate Director will supervise the cross-training process for advisors as well as supervise college/university campaign coordinated messaging to students. The Associate Director will also be responsible for supervising advisors within the college (along with another Associate Director and the Director of Advising). managery tasks include: approving time off requests, training, mentoring, covering staff issues, and escalating student concerns as appropriate.

The Associate Director also informs advising processes and practices within CHESS and serves as an information resource to students and faculty and staff, which include Department Chairs and Associate Chairs, Undergraduate Coordinators, faculty advisors, and professional advisors in the college.

The Associate Director will be engaged in other activities that support the orientation, onboarding, and consistent communication to CHESS students. These activities might include teaching and seminar facilitation, event participation, and other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Education/practice
   » Masters degree completed by July 1, 2024.
   » Demonstration of capability to establish rapport with individuals, inspire confidence and build relationships.
   » Excellent verbal and written communication expertise that demonstrate tact and diplomacy.
   » practice presenting to groups of people utilizing significant technology and pedagogical best practices.
   » Candidate must have at least two years of practice involving student academic advising in a Higher Education setting.
   » Candidate must also be attentive to detail, possess strong organizational expertise with the capability to prioritize while multi-tasking and manage tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
   » capability to interact effectively with advisees, staff and faculty required.
   » A viable candidate must comprehend and abide by federal and university student confidentiality requirements.
   » Proficient use of computers (Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Google Suite) is necessary.
Preferred Education, expertise, expertise and practice
   » 3-5 five years of advising practice after the attainment of the Master's degree and at least 2 years of managery practice is preferred.
   » Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal expertise are a must.
   » practice teaching freshman seminar, a student success seminar or workshops is also preferred. practice interacting with faculty and administrators is preferred.
