Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical adjunct positions for the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position performs research or field work, in support of academic faculty Tomasino research program.

Position tasks
   »80% of the candidate's responsibilities will be to assist with: sensory panels run through the Tomasino lab.
   »20% of the candidate's responsibilities will include general laboratory tasks including: cleaning glassware, updating chemical inventory, organizing of chemical freezers and fridges, updating operating procedures etc.

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Be in an active Viticulture & enology program or Food Science & Technology program
   » Have prior practice with sensory science
   » prosperously (B or better) completed organic chemistry or biochemistry
   » prosperously completed (HB or better) or taking concurrently FST420
   » practice with sensory science and/or analytical chemistry
   » Completed or enrolled in statistics course

Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
   » Anticipated 10 hours per week, to be determined by hiring unit
   » Conditions vary depending on location, these positions do not have regular hours but will depend on the scheduled sensory tests for each term
   » May require walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods
   » May require maneuvering and transporting heavy objects, need to be able to lift 50 pounds regularly
   » May require working with or around chemicals or hazardous materials
