The Department's staff protects and serves the University community by enforcing the laws of North Carolina, policies of the University, preserving and optimizing resources and by maintaining an environment that fosters higher education and community-oriented service. Job tasks Candidates will work with a diversified community; communicate effectively with those who may be irate; make effective decisions in emergency life and death situations; prioritize calls and identify potential dangers; and work as a member of a team and interact favorably with all students, staff, faculty, and visitors. The selected candidate will be able to work 12-hour rotating shifts. Candidate must undergo an broad background investigation including, but not limited to psychological evaluation, medical exam, and drug screen. Minimum Education/practice High School diploma and sufficient practice to demonstrate capability to work under pressure. Additional Education and practice will be necessary for progressive steps (Journey and Advanced). Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the capability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. May require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in conformity with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the capability to achieve certification within one year of employment. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. License or Certification required by statute or regulation Division of Criminal Information certification or the capability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment.
