Employee may be required to work occasional evenings, nights, and/or weekends. Individual is expected to answer calls and resolve questions/issues raised by security and library staff during unscheduled hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Mandatory Position This position is designated as ?mandatory' and when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dedicated by the adverse weather conditions or other extenuating circumstances. Primary Purpose of Position The Library Building Operations Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling activities for building services, security, and mail services. This position provides skills, expertise, and skills to develop and maintain infrastructure services for J. Murrey Atkins Library. The primary areas of responsibility are: Facilities Management, Project Management, Safety and Security, Supervision of Facilities Staff, Facilities Resource Development, Facilities Budget Development, Shipping/Receiving/Mail Services, and Inventory Control Oversight. Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of practice in trade(s) areas assigned; or equivalent combination of training and practice. University Preferred Appropriate qualifications: Graduation from a technical college with a major in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology and a minimum of three years progressive practice in facility maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and practice. Essential Job tasks The position serves as Building Operations Manager for the UNC Charlotte Atkins Library and 1040 Derita Road Unit B. tasks include planning, organizing, staffing, directing, and controlling activities for building services and mail services. Other Work Responsibilities » Serves as a liaison, along with the Library Security Director, to the campus/community offices of Environmental Health and Safety, Facilities Management, Police and Public Safety, Fire, and Emergency Management; » Serves as library's project manager for multiple complex construction and repair projects, including capital improvement projects involving the Atkins Library facility or connected services; » Serves on the Library Safety and Disaster Preparedness Committee. Departmental Preferred practice, Skills, Training/Education » expertise of safety and security standards and best practices; » practice managing complex projects; » practice leading teams; » Strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as the capability to work independently; » expertise of HVAC, electrical, and other building construction codes; » Familiarity with the following systems is a plus: AutoCad, VisioCad, DNA Fusion, Keykeeper, Microsoft Office, and Google applications to support existing systems used by Library Facilities operations.
