Associate Director of Career Preparation and Professional Development

June 27, 2024 Brooklyn Campus Career Preparation

Position summary: 

Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Director of Career Preparation and Professional Development will provide outstanding career advisement, internship counseling and job-search advising and programming to students and alumni of the St. Joseph’s Brooklyn campus.  
With campuses in Brooklyn and Long Island, St. Joseph’s University is dedicated to providing an academically strong and affordable education at the graduate and undergraduate level. The University aims to prepare each student to lead lives worthy of the University’s motto: Esse non videri – “to be, not to seem.”    The University does not sponsor H1-B visas.

Responsibilities include:

   » Managing the day-to-day operations of the Career office on the Brooklyn campus.
   » Assisting students in clarifying and meeting career goals, through scheduled individual career counseling appointments, online assistance, and group workshops.
   » Maintaining the organization and updating of the university’s Handshake system, and of whatever career office platform is used in the future.  
   » Providing instruction related to career planning to significant classes.
   » Establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with students, alumni, faculty, employers and the general public.  
   » Working with the Office of Institutional Advancement to connect students with the internship and career opportunities offered by St. Joseph’s alumni.  
   » Planning and implementing job fairs and on-campus recruiting events.  
   » Distributing information on internship opportunities.
   » Counseling students about graduate school choices, admission, and general financial aid information.  
   » Supervising expenditures for the Career office, and supervising any staff including work study students.
   » Fulfilling other tasks as assigned by the Provost.

Appropriate qualifications:

   » Bachelor’s degree required.  Master’s degree in related field preferred.
   » At least two years of practice in career development and/or job search counseling is required.
   » practice with career services-related software including Handshake.
   » Proven expertise at team-building and nurturing relationships.
   » Abilities to create and present polished presentations.
   » A friendly, positive attitude.
