Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time adjunct Catering Manager position for University Housing and Dining Services at Oregon State University (OSU). This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position. University Catering offers inspired cuisine and exceptional service to campus students and guests. Dining Services focuses on local and sustainable ingredients, healthy food options and cooking from scratch. This is a year-round operation providing catering services both on and off campus. The University Catering operations team works in collaboration with kitchen personnel, venue management, and external clients to execute 10-40 catered events on a everyday basis. This position will provide leadership abilities to the catering student employees and oversight of classified and student staff in completing everyday events and objectives. This position will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks and logistical support to the catering manager and banquet manager. This position requires strong attention to detail, clear communication expertise and maintaining execution and accountcapability for long and short-term goals. The dynamic nature of catering will require this position to occasionally have a varied schedule due to business needs, travel on and off campus to facilitate events and be active in both office settings and in the field. University Catering is a fast paced environment where sound decision making and sense of urgency are required. This is a team-oriented program and there will be occasions when Information technology is necessary to support other events or areas beyond those assigned as a primary responsibility. Key Responsibilities 50% Catering Operations: » Provide outstanding customer service to all internal & external clients, and pursues open dialog with clients and guests to ensure high satisfaction. » Has a physical presence in the catering production floor during meal periods that occur during shift so that customer service, cleanliness, culinary quality and business issues can be observed and addressed as needed. » Provide staffing support by shifting employees as needed to cover workload. » Provide hands on participation in everyday operations for multiple areas & instruct staff as needed. » Meet weekly as part of the Catering leadership abilities team to provide operational, staffing and business updates. » Utilizes this meeting as an opportunity to get guidance on problems and issues the catering department faces. » Recommend procedural changes and practices to ensure efficient, effective workflow and quality standards. » Ensure the department's safety and sanitation goals are being exceeded on a everyday basis. This includes ensuring everyday temperature logs are maintained accurately & filed for agreed upon time frames, staff are trained following the established safety and sanitations policies, HACCP procedures are being followed and exceeded, everyday inspections are made to ensure all internal and exterior areas are clean and debris free. Provide ideas and strategies to improve/increase catering and summer conference operations. » Implement and maintain the Student Attendance Policy. » Assist with accommodating guests with dietary needs and allergens. » Ensure that dishes have proper labels regarding allergens and dietary preference (i.e. vegan, Halal, gluten free). » Maintain, organize and implement menu tag program for proper distribution to catered events. » Organize and list equipment needs for upcoming events by preparing gathering pick sheets for future events. » Consider other event needs for staff and equipment to be sure Catering can meet all business needs. » Maintain standards and consistency of gathering needs and follow up with staff to ensure accuracy. » Assist in determining Inventory and supplies required for events, that are not provided by the kitchen, and requisition appropriate product orders. » Use email, Microsoft Teams, CaterTrax and various other online portals for ordering and communication needs. » Update inventory as directed and take inventory of food, alcohol and equipment as directed. » Obtain licensing for special events from Benton County when applicable. » Assist with onboarding training and paperwork for new hires. » Occasionally pick-up and deliver items around campus, or from off-campus, for internal UHDS partners using university vehicle. 40% Employee leadership abilities and Supervision: » Utilize UHDS's Vision and Values statements as part of University Catering's shared leadership abilities style. » Responsible for all aspects of student employee hiring: interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training/mentoring and evaluating. » Identify training needs for staff members and determines solutions to address those needs. » Supervise classified and student staff, including orients, plan/assign/approve work, train, coach, and prepare/sign performance appraisals. » Assist with training programs; including coaching & mentoring, customer service, safety & sanitation, etc., to teach staff members to address these areas with students. » Collaborate with other managers in the scheduling of fulltime and student staff according to business needs. » Provide leadership abilities, mentoring, coaching and advising to all staff. Works with all staff to identify their career goals and provides guidance on how they can achieve them. » Monitor staff on an continuing basis and provide everyday coaching. » Prepare and conduct performance evaluations for classified staff at least once per year. Uses annual performance appraisals to help staff set career goals for the coming year and evaluate success in achieving goals set during the previous performance appraisal. Work with Catering Manager to update job descriptions annually during performance appraisal period. » Meet at least once per term one-on-one with each classified staff member to provide performance feedback. » Complete performance evaluation for student staff, providing professional feedback & goals. » Complete Worker's Compensation required documentation within set time frames. » Consult with Catering Manager with progressive discipline situations.
