Minimum Position Appropriate qualifications: Bachelor's degree and one (1) year of appropriate practice. An equivalent combination of education and practice may substitute for the degree requirement.

Special Conditions: This position is for one member of the team of faculty and staff in the Information Access Services Department. The person in this position may be cross trained to support multiple functions of the Department and works with most formats included in the University Libraries' collections. The key responsibilities of this position support the Libraries' serials subscriptions in all formats, print and online, and includes the management of periodicals and standing orders. The candidate will assist with planning and implementing various collection analysis projects.
The specific tasks, tasks, and responsibilities of this position are subject to change as technology advances and the needs and interests of the University Libraries, and the University of Memphis evolve over time.

Work Schedule: Monday -Friday
8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
From time to time, the work schedule might be modified to meet needs of the library.

Working Conditions: While performing the tasks of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

Additional Working Conditions: The University Libraries is a technologically oriented academic research library with some similarity to an office environment. Position requires capability to remain in a stationary position, move about inside department and library building, operate a computer, move books across department or library, position self to maintain materials on shelves or cabinets. The person in this position may be required to ascend/descend a stool to reach materials, move wheeled book trucks weighing up to 300 pounds.

Previous library work practice including work with OCLC, and integrated library system, and library classifications schemes, is preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills that will support establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with a diverse group of faculty, staff, coworkers, and external partners and to interact with them in a courteous and professional manner.
Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team while meeting deadlines, completing work on established schedules, and asking for assistance, if needed, to prevent delays in accomplishing tasks.

tasks & Job responsibilities: Assists with the general functions of the Acquisitions and Collection Development Unit as needed.
Conducts initial searches in various bibliographic databases to verify and/or complete data on purchase requests and to eliminate duplication.
Orders and processes material by identifying appropriate vendors and creating purchase orders for complex materials, including out of print materials.
Processes invoices for materials that have been ordered in specific disciplines.
Searches various bibliographic resources to locate, create, or modify appropriate item or bibliographic records to maintain integrity of collection development data in the online catalog.
Creates brief original order records in the integrated library system following established library policy.
Works with colleagues from cataloging and other areas to address and correct problems with item records in the library's online catalog.
Supervises work of students, volunteers, or other staff assigned to support the Acquisitions and Collection Development Unit.

Maintains expertise of library policies and procedures and computer skills through attendance at meetings of library and departmental staff and training classes.
Serves as liaison for Information Access Services with other departments or branch libraries, as needed.
Assists in training of new employees.
Participates in individual and group meetings related to the work of the Department and/or the University Libraries.
Compiles and submits statistical data or other reports, on established schedule or as requested, on all work performed, using departmental forms or submission mechanisms.
